The gay community decidedly revolves around the high tension topic of sex, so that intimate dynamic seeps into every interaction like at gay bars. It creates a high tension atmosphere which emanates the drama.

Secondly, more relevant imho, is the prior friend group, its lessons. I can see how that experience would leave you a "sadder, wiser" person and would sour repeating the prospect.

This is a common feeling though. Its most common when someone is entering a scene with an established network or culture, so people do empathically communicate or share frames of reference that are foreign to the person entering.

I could never make my own. I know you would probably disagree, and I respect that of course, but I did a deep dive on the fur farms where it was made and they check out as being well run humanely. My only issue was the amount of space afforded for the animals, but they also improved that since then. They eat like kings and are euthanized according to veterinarian professional standards.

Plus, mink are pretty savage in the wild. They are survivors but they raid chicken houses and kill things just for fun.

They say the new traps they use are better, but I havent looked much into them. I was against traps before but the new ones seem much more humane, but I am not sure. No normal person wants to see animals suffer.

I have issues with Concentrated Animal Feed Operations though, depending on how they are run, especially for chickens who get it the worst afaik.

My biggest issue is with the pet industry and how it is allowable to give custody of an animal to any incompetent irresponsible child or idiot with a handful of cash. For all the animals that become loved pets, many others are abandoned to neglect and suffer. There should be some better standard for releasing them to customers, but the industry would claim it would decimate business. The 'almighty dollar' and such.

Well then the bigger issue is ranching in general. I can see the moral question of supporting a life to then deliberately end it. Some might say it is more humane than hunting for it, where the animal dies in relatively uncontrolled suffering, but at least it dies in its habitat after a natural life. Conversely, it is protected on a ranch from all harm, but how it is ranched makes a difference too. Though the euthanization, or killing, is typically swift.

Which then brings it to the question of human need; do humans need meat or not. There are objective facts, but there is also perspectives. Likewise, one has to ask why every other animal is allowed to kill for food yet we cannot, even with the most humane measures.

And its a worthwhile question that depends on values, and I can see both sides.

"Lab grown" meat looks promising, so maybe that can resolve the issue for a lot of people. I look forward to seeing where it goes. I was generally against it at first but learned more and think it might bring a lot of solutions to many current issues.

Thank you. I promise I researched the fur farms as thoroughly as possible before buying. I would never buy outside the US or Europe. Likewise, while minks are treated very well, rabbits, afaik, are not.

I assume its because they do not bring the profits that mink does, and dont require an expensive diet, and are not nearly as difficult to raise.

I have heard all the horror stories about fur farms outside of the US and Europe. Inside the US, mink farms are commercially contracted to standards of care. But I dont think rabbit farms are. Without industry professional certification being contracted, bad players can get away with a lot. So I do not presume rabbit fur comes from an ethical source unless one knows exactly which ranch it came from. And that would be troubling.

Its much the same for chickens. Because 8 billion chickens are eaten annually, there is so much demand that ranching for even the best CAFOs is dubious to even begin with. Although some do get certifications commercially. Still, its a question of what a commercial certification is worth.

Europe and Australia are having a problem right now with halal butchering. Halal is actually based on respect for the animal from beginning to end. However the demand for halal poultry especially puts enormous strain on producers because halal is very specific on many issues of the animals care and slaughter, which are very difficult to adhere to in mass scale.

So there has been a lot of commercial monkeying around with what is genuine 'halal' and many of its customers get angry when they find out a halal producer has take haram shortcuts.
