I am sure there is interesting geography. I could not possibly advise on how to explore any of it; it is an entire continent, after all, and the scattered patchwork of cultures, standards and degrees of development make it difficult to imagine how to plan a safe, comfortable and rewarding trip. Many do, though.
I don't have experience to give any qualified advice, but to answer your question directly, I would consider its geography; beaches, mountains, plains. Even cities; I am sure there are some commercially developed ones.
Political unrest aside, my impression is that Kenya is perhaps the most developed region south of the Sahara, besides SA, which is reporting problems.
Some will fault the less developed rural cultures, but they are real. Contrary to memes, many of them are genuinely trying to reconcile sudden technological imported culture with less foundational experience. While difficult, the progress is real also. The Congo is known to have advanced significantly, relative to its location.
