I like the themes and all the gnostic symbolism but goddamn this is painful to get through for most of it. I got 60 pages left to read and l'm looking at the other books on my desk I wanna start after this like they're ripe pussies.

Something about 80% of the book being descriptions of the desert and hills and forests and steppe in a prose I don't think I really enjoy. Some moments are powerful even during setting descriptions but it get very repetitive after a certain point. When I see two characters starting to talk I get all excited, then they just say a couple lines of dialogue, one turns his head and spits on the ground, then setting again. Inb4 I'm very much a character enjoyer obviously.

To each their own. I found the landscape desctiptions the best part about the book.

Tho I did read a translated version of the book.

I listened to an audiobook of this dogshit. How this gets praised is beyond me. Sure, you laugh at the edginess or at the funny albino man but this is just so bad.

You just don't get it artistic merit literally rots there are literally amounts of being known by others that a thing can be that changes what it is so that Blood Meridian is now no longer a good book because some guy made a youtube essay about it that got a bunch of views /lit/ is a serious board for serious readers of serious books you gotta listen to /lit/ anon be a good goy and throw every baby out with the bathwater at the slightest provocation

read Suttree instead its the superior book and it has a lot more going for it being a slice of life novel about a man thrusting himself into the dredges of old knoxville as a sort of penance for his lack of drive, very funny alkie story too

Thereโ€™s very little diversity. The pre-2015 iteration of the word.
Riding on horses. Gore. Little villa. Gore. Tough riding. Man itโ€™s so tough. Gore. More rough riding. Gore.
So much it desensitizes you to the point of disinterest. 2nd act loses most people Iโ€™m sure. Iโ€™m getting through fewer pages each time I open it.

Also a glossary would have been appreciated. Iโ€™m fine not knowing words but I canโ€™t glean the meaning of a word through context clues if I donโ€™t know what the other 10 words in the phrase are.

Iโ€™m glad to know. At the part rn where the Kid got separated from the company for like an hour and the last of the Delawares got strung up by the heels and I wish it had lasted substantially longer. Iโ€™m fine with a blank character to be the readers viewpoint but the Kid doesnโ€™t even get mentioned for whole chapters in a row.
I guess Iโ€™m glad I canโ€™t predict too much at this point

found out about this band yesterday, apparently they wrote an album inspired by BM. Sort of psychedelic doomy rock I suppose, maybe some of you will like it.

You are the kid. You aren't being told what to think, you're experiencing the actions of the Glanton gang through his lense, even if it has little impact to their overall course.

would /lit/ be interested in a read-along for BM? Since it's now a meme cult book it should be required reading. How did the other ones go I never quite followed? I feel like they often choose long, difficult books that, the already illiterate sub, will never even consider. But a few judge memes might convince a few frogs to read this, plus it the perfect moment now with the heat waves approaching
