From what I can see, people like the idea of Machu and the potentiality of her character more so than her actual depiction in the narrative. For example, it's strange to cite her relationship with Nyaan as something "potentially" interesting as a positive when the show itself does not have their contrasting qualities play off each other to reveal anything that wasn't glaringly obvious at the outset of their introductions or anything of import that would give their interactions some depth or affect.

Think of when Nyaan is accosted by police and Machu (impulsively) kicks one of them in the nuts. Is that lack of thought for the repercussions of her actions an effect of their blossoming relationship? You can "potentially" say this, but Machu, as I've understood her character as of episode 3, would've done this regardless of such a development. She already put herself in mortal danger for Nyaan's sake in episode 1. Her actions when seeing the Gundam are also out of the norm. When she's deliberating about continuing clan battles and the prospect of death if she does so, she specifically mentions her lack of fear when experiencing the Kira-Kira with Shuji though. She then gets a premonition about the connection between Kira Kira itself and Shuji's graffiti, which is contrasted with a classmate's inquiry about whether she filled her career goal forms. Machu's lack of thought in what truly doesn't make sense or illustrate a point about her in an interesting way is when she accidentally knocks away Shuji's money simply because Nyaan started talking to him (about money). We already understand her self-centeredness and impulsivity while the knowledge of Nyaan's situation on her part and the comedic nature of the particular part deflates the entire scene and highlights the artificiality negatively as it was clearly a (lazy) beat to necessitate a team up. Character limited, but the issues with the writing are clear even in the first half.

Anyways, about MC, in hindsight Machu does a lot of stupid things, but I prefer her so much more to Suletta. Suletta can be funny, cute and a Tanuki who loots refrigerators, but apart from that, she's an empty character.

From the writer of Code Geass I would have expected that one of the twists was that Suletta was not a clumsy idiot at all, but was just acting while in reality she was a schemer with a very specific plan 100% together with her mother.

Miorine discovering this side of Suletta and accepting it would probably have made their relationship more intriguing and genuine. Sulemio, it seems like a classic isekai relationship where a passive girl falls in love with the Mc just because he's nice to her or saves her.

The whole body count discussion is dodging the fact that Machu went through a heist, a pogrom, a few mobile suit battles that are more often than no fatal, and an enormous coup detat but was never genuinely put in a situation where she was actually forced to consider killing someone. The closest she ver came to that was when she pointed the revolver at the grandis bootleg character. According to the interviews Tsurumaki wanted to show Machu as a character capable of maintaining their innocence, and that well and good (Loran did that pretty well, for example) but trying write a protagonist with enduring pacifism rings hollow when Machu never really faced an actual test to that pacifism that ever caused her to reconsider it.

Essentially, she goes from a typically selfish, sheltered teen girl to someone capable of looking outside her perspective. Not exactly groundbreaking, but the best defense of the show I can come up with.

G.Witch just has a very good mecha design.
If it had been a truly successful show, they would have extended its run to 3-4 seasons. They literally did that for Code Geass, which was supposed to be 24 episodes, and they increased it to 48, but its success is truly real.

With G.witch, however, it seems like the director and screenwriter were convinced they could make 36-48 episodes, but Bandai said NO. In fact, Season 2 is a disaster precisely because the pacing is completely off.

The mecha design is truly excellent, but the general opinion of the show varies greatly depending on the person.

Yurifans (who have nothing to do with Gundam) are a little offended by the lack of a kiss, but more or less satisfied. Many others from Japan complain that this show is kinda dishonest because prologue, and the show should have had fewer characters.

The ending is rushed to hell and back, so there's some blink-and-you'll-miss-it lines of dialogue in there, which I'm giving the benefit of the doubt for the sake of argument. In the case of Nyaan, Machu makes a comment about how she's going to free the rose both to help Shuji and to stop Nyaan from going any further. I think you can take that as her thinking about what's best for Nyaan in that moment, since otherwise she's been entirely focused on just what Shuji wants and being with Shuji. In episode 12, there's also her speech to Nyaan when they become MAVs, which has her display more consideration for Nyaan's perspective.
