-=READ THE GUIDES=-
Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!
For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!
For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!
And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

-=ARTILLERY GROUPBUILD=-
Build a mecha or vehicle that uses long-range heavy-weapons such as Cannons, Missiles/Rockets, Railguns, or any other type of siege weaponry. Some clarifying rules
>The weapon can either be placed anywhere on the build (Shoulder-mounted, under-slung, etc), or in a separate side-build (Such as an artillery system utilized by a larger mech).
>Side-builds can include things like howitzers, self-propelled artillery, missile platforms, and the like.
>Alternatively, the mech can act as a spotter, loader, or some other role to support Artillery fire.
>Despite technically being a long-range weapon, Sniper Rifles are a no-go.
Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Is the Aegis Gundam worth it, or will I find myself bored with the monotony of ANOTHER Seed kit?
I might start cheating on you guys with girlpla
>>23351378it has a gaping butthole cannon
>>23351380Thank you for preventing me from making a mistake. I owe you anon.
So the AK Woundwort has much better plastic and zero mold defects or fitting issues compared to the XFS version but good grief is it tight as hell, it makes me afraid something's going to snap every time I try to pose it.
Also a thing that irked me with the XFS Woundwort was that the torso slightly tilted to the left because of the D hole connection on the body. This issue is still present on the AK Woundwort but before bitching I decided to check reviews of the Bandai Woundwort and it turns out the problem is also there on the Bandai version as well. Huh.

Ok. I'm not gonna bother ordering gunpla from them anymore, this is bullshit.
They're fine for other model kits but the last handful of times I've tried buying gunpla from them I've gotten this same outcome.

>>23351404unfortunately this part isnt really one you can glue back together. it has to be able to take some strain and there is so little nub to work with. I am not sure how it would work. I might try greenstuff and see if it holds. it's not a visible part within the frame so a quick and dirty fix might work here.
New vidar is already on the way, so the upside is that i've got a project kit for painting some day.

Has anyone here tried adding a little โgirthโ to parts with curved surfaces by applying multiple layers of something like Mr surfacer 500?
>>23351483Plenty of people have done that accidentally and it looks awful like you stuck marshmallow on.
>>23351497Wouldnโt the marshmallow effect be avoided by smoothing the surface? Or do the multiple layers just end up making the silhouette a little formless?
Weird, I know but I never actually used super glue on gunpla before. I've been using cement this whole time. Is there a brand like tamiya that's reliable for hobby stuff? The ones I've used IRL always come in little tubes and always get gunked up with flaky stuff so its a pain to use. Do those long nozzle things help with that?
>>23351502yes, i have one of those long nozzle applicator things on my extra thin super glue and it doesn't clog much. when it does clog you can just snip off the end with some scissors
>>23351500The latter. Also if you're adding bulk then smoothing the surface you're reducing the alleged bulk you just added. What exactly are you trying to do?
>>23351452i want them but bandai and wave both have their cons
think i'll wait for an occasion to nab a max factory kit
>>23351502Is it weird? Why would you use superglue instead of cement?
>>23351529to bond abs joints to ps armour on non-snapfit kits because cement doesn't bond (ps to abs very strongly) or to pin broken pieces
>>23351529to bond abs joints to ps armour on non-snapfit kits (because cement doesn't bond ps to abs very strongly) or to pin broken pieces
>>23351510I wouldnโt be sanding all the added bulk off, the purpose of smoothing it would be to get a better finish than just the Mr surfacer 500 and to shape the part a bit to stop it from looking like a blob
>>23351529Like that anon said, to pin, and to magnetize. Cement doesn't work with magnets and brass rods after all. Also, I've heard good things about talcum powder+cement as a substitute for putty.
>>23351506>>23351535Do you guys use a specific brand of superglue? I've only ever used superglue that come in tubes and I want to try the ones in bottles but I'm not sure what brand to get.
>>23351529i've used it for joints i've modified for seam removal on some non-bandai kits since cement doesn't create a strong enough bond for the limb to be moveable without breaking

>>23351565it's all the same stuff, the only difference is whether you get thick. medium, or thin
>>23351580I'm pretty sure it's just a fancy gloss coat to make the plastic not look like plastic.
>>23351588So when you cut them off the runner it looks like shit?
>>23351604Yeah basically. Especially because bandai doesn't redesign the kits to be undergated. That will be 60 dollars extra plus tip.

How's the MG turn A? I've heard good things about it and it's currently being sold for a pretty good price. But is it worth the $60 if I already have the HG?

Why did they give it a waist?

>>23351893I just don't care man.
>>23351885Nagano's been trying his best, can't wait to see what Bandai can deliver
>>23351893you'll have to buy 16 zaku IIs to use $80 worth of zaku II decals. It will cost you $190 total, assuming you go for the old 2003 zaku instead of the revive
>>23351894Alright but hypothetically letโs just pretend that you do care. Are you more of a GM man? just throw me some numbers how many GM do you think I will need to -accrue first?
>>23351912Exquisite analysis my friend. Perhaps I was too harsh on our decal anonโฆ. Over 1 dozen full painted decaled zakus for less than 200 is a steal. Is there an easy way to know which kit is which? Do they share the same hguc model number? Does it label it with the revive label on the box?
I'll also randomly throw out to any anons curious I've had really good experience with Delpi shipping. Granted this was before tariff shenanigans but my water slides got here in probably like three days which was ridiculous.
>>23351840>80 dollars in decals is nonsensemost waterslide sheets are anywhere from 2 to 10 bucks, so we'll just say if you only bought waterslides from them (they well other things too but don't let this stop you from being a smug dipshit) you could get yourself something like a couple dozen waterslides. Sheets aren't all equal so some of those are reusable, some aren't. You'd have enough for at least the same amount of kits as waterslide sheets.
If you've been in this hobby longer than a year you might realize it's both easy and useful to accrue things in bulk for projects. I've got over a hundred waterslide sheets at this point probably in a couple of ziploc bags, and I just pick through and take relevant decals from them. If you bought 80 bucks of waterslide decals you'll have decals for the next half a decade to pull from, easily, if not a whole decade. As an aside I probably buy like 40 bucks of waterslides a year, maybe more. Not to be a faggot, but it's ultimately not a lot of money for what you get.

>>23351935I was mainly shitposting earlier because buying 80.00 worth of decals and getting free shipping is basically them saving you what should realistically be like 3.00. obviously if you are buying other stuff with physical mass that argument goes out the window. A decal sheet is like half the size of a normal piece of paper. Maybe a third. I donโt even know how many you would need to buy for it to weight a quarter of a pound. Iโm pretty sure I was able to sell stuff on eBay and ship it to the guy for like 3.50 or something if it was that light.
Everything else aside if you can get enough use out of them itโs a good value though. Itโs tough to find a good decal sheet for numbers though because many of them seem set up to only let you make one model. If you want a unit to have 3 number decals on it, and you want one to be number 01 and another to be 02 and another to be 03 etc most sheets seem to only give you 3 0โs and if you get more 0โs they are in a different size and donโt match. so you end up needing one sheet per model often times which seems like something they do on purpose.
>>23351966looks great dude, that kit looks awesome as is. I love seeing how far bandai has come.
>>23352075After typing it out Iโm starting to think the way you could maybe get more use out of it is for one decal sheet to make one unit number 01 and another unit something not using 01 like 23 or 32. So you would need to stagger out the numbers somehow which might be practical unless you are fine with a bunch of random numbered units and donโt need them to be sequential. Maybe that is a better approach because on one decal sheet you get
01 01 01
23 23 23
64 64 64
95 95 95
87 87 87

It doesnโt have a user interface which is as good as photoshop but for what youโre trying to do itโs more than sufficient. Last time I used photoshop was years ago so I have no clue what modern photoshop UI is actually like but Iโm just going off my memory. For example if you make the robot its own layer you can go to the layer options in the bottom right side and scroll down how you want the layer to behave and you can turn it into grey scale. You can mess with the exposure and the light and shadows options to get this look. Hit it with a bit of a blur effect if you want it to look out of focus. use sharpen if someone gives you a picture that is a little too fuzzy. Lots of options. Powerful for a free tool but just takes time to learn. I would argue someone good with Gimp will make something better than an amateur at photoshop doesnโt matter if itโs free

>>23353572>how much timeKnowing bandai it's the same thing every time so soonish at least. They're incapable of actually telling what is popular or what would sell well and then under release a product. After it sells out immediately they scramble to try to keep up with demand while scalpers rape everyone. Then they put out a product that has no demand and no popularity and it sits on store shelves not being bought and they wonder why.
>>23353577I've come to realize that competent people NEVER work in marketing, business or finance. Smart people go into engineering, medicine and that kind of stuff. I've literally never met a 'smar' business major.
>>23353577i bet printing schedules have at least an 12-18 month lead time. At least.
You gotta figure that they run their operation lean- meaning they have precise print numbers and calculations for everything. They have to source everything from the boxes themselves, the plastic bags the runners come in, the dyes, the plastics. whatever they make the molds out of from the master mold. It's probably a huge pain in the ass/impossible to jump the queue with extra printings of a hot kit.
>>23353594>12-18 month lead timeI think that is largely disproven by pbandai's shipment dates at this point.
>Boxes and plastic sleevesbandai is likely doing this in house but you don't sincerely think this is difficult do you?
>>23353602yeah, my guess is that they have a sort of production fastlane.
We know they have a maximum number of each special release- they probably order the maximum number of stickers/decals/boxes and destroy whatever isn't used since they cost pennies- then maybe order the dyes and plastics special.
The new pbandai preorders for all the different promo gundams this week ship a few weeks after preorder. This makes me think that this run is going to be extremely limited-not like the runs that ship 3 months after preorders close.
But I still believe that regular printings.themselves would be a massive undertaking. Imagine what it would cost just to warehouse all this.
>>23353602>bandai is likely doing this in house but you don't sincerely think this is difficult do you?why would they do that in-house? it would take them years, if ever, so see profitability from setting up those facilities when they could just get better quality for cheaper from a manufacturer. Imagine the costs (and space required) of maintaining and running your own print shop when you could order 10,000 mg barbatos instruction manuals for some obscenely cheap price.
Bought pic rel on a whim. Havent done gundams or anything non 40k/mini painting related in a long time. I was thinking a purple scheme or maybe a red would look cool. But it looks like it has a lot of moving parts, and im not sure how to approach that. With gundams you can just do the main colors armor panels and leave the joints mostly alone. The last zoid I did was the gun sniper raptor with the fuckload of guns. I didnt really paint the raptor, just a fuckload a detail work on the guns.
>>23353621>why would they do that in-house?because it's cheap as hell and the more you out source the bigger the potential for catastrophic failures becomes along with delays. Smarter every day recently put out a great video on the challenges of manufacturing a product - his stated goal was to get something made in America entirely. While it doesn't represent bandai's challenges it is a nice parallel to give you an idea of what you have to deal with when you outsource. If you want another example a local business making charging handles recently had to deal with the manufacturer (some American machine shop) promising him a date when the product would be finished and delivering 4 months late.
>Imagine what it would cost just to warehouse all this.Dirt cheap when you own the warehouses and ship enough product that the shipping companies offer you a fraction of the cost of shipping and/or the cost of temporarily storing and then moving the product is made up for by the revenue it brings in.
>>23351797>>23351794the cow hilariously is off-scale compared to the standing pilot. quality-wise, it's a 2007 kit so it has SOVL engineering and detail. it's designed by Katoki so it's technically a Ver. Ka. it has a weird way of assembling the pauldrons though
>>23353646>Ver. KaAt this point do they really even need Ver Ka. kits since it seems like most of the new kits that come out are designed by him anyway.
>>23353224GP01 is one of the most neglected MS in the Gunpla lineup. Its PG kit has been out of print for a while, its MG kits are incredibly old and notoriously bad, and the RG kit also has many flaws such as the missing core block and the torso being lose fitting due to the core fighter.
>>23353642you're not getting a better quality product for cheaper by printing in house. I can promise you that. You're absolutely going to a manufacturer that prints millions of pages a week.
I can't speak about supply shortages- I am not sure what sort of supplies that bandai needs for their own manufacturing processes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVHI7nKMqlE&ab_channel=GundamInfo this is an older video and doesn't show all the Bandai factory but it seems really hard to believe that they also operate their own print shop. Maybe Bandai owns a print shop within the broader company that they order from(that also takes orders from third parties), but I just have a hard time believing that they alone would be able to supply a printer with enough work to justify it's own existence.

>>23353687that looks about right, BANDAI SPIRITS Co., ltd and BANDAI NAMCO Group ARTPRESTO Co., Ltd. will interact with each other like two separate corporate entities. It's not really the definition of "in-house" other than they are both wholly owned(guessing) subsidiaries that bring value to the same shareholders.
I meant supply shortages like your reference. One of the biggest problems in manufacturing is that it's obscenely expensive to own/operate each stage of the process and very rarely would it even be a profitable endeavor. My guess is that your example was a guy ordering low (relative) quantities of parts from small time manufacturers. These things smooth out over time and with scaling.
A good example of this is medicine, sometimes medicine will touch 3 or four continents before it reaches your hands. Sometimes finished drugs are shipped to other continents just so they can package them and ship them back to you. it all depends on laws and regulations.

Less normie bait and more soulful gritty realism with sculpted battle damages, broken armor plates, etc...Basically several shortcuts for a gritty build and all you need to do is paint.
>>23354017>instead of following current design trends the line should have been hipster shit nobody would buy
>>23351400You weren't fast enough, you were lying about how fast you were and now you're just mad for no reason. Either that or it's still coming and they're slow getting it to you. If you really ordered in the first 10 minutes there's no way you'd miss it.
>>23354019Matte topcoat with weathering is literally the most normieshit ever. Bandai is just a coward.
>>23353996I can fix this in one easy trick
>buy 10 zakus>buy 10 GM>buy the paint for all of this>all the same colors>can break it down into chunks >it gets better>this scales indefinitely>buy 50 zaku and 50 GM>still only need a few colors of paint
>>23354023RGs aren't going for "gritty realism", they're going for the magazine build look.
>>23353998Unironically, if we don't do modeling now, there won't be a second chance sooner or later because life is finite.
>>23354027>RGs aren't going for "gritty realism">realismRG is short for Real Grade
>>23354035that's why it's called the Gritty Real Grade (GRG) line
>>23354027That's just depressing. Magazine builds used to be different.
>>23354042Yeah, trends change anon. In everything.
>>23354042Magazine builds used to be scratch builds made by enthusiasts, nowadays magazine builds are painted kits by curated painters with some occasional minor custom work.
>>23354027I don't expect them to look gritty, but damn, there is nothing "real" about these models. They look like Metal Build action figures if anything, just more toyetic.
>>23354047Not any difference. Magazine builds ranged from prettied-up straightbuilds to elaborate redesign and still do.
>>23354047No, there are a still a handful of scratch builds in modern magazines. But they lack that "soul". I don't why, but the professional, perfected looks of these builds don't do anything for me.
>>23354047>occasional minor custom workThe custom work is actually extensive. You just don't notice it because it usually comes down to modifying proportions in subtle ways.
>>23354012Why? There already exists an HG. Why do you need another glorified HG? What is wrong with you?
>>23354062Versus a full scratch build? Minor.
>>23354066Unironically, people who do scratch builds are always based in my book. It takes huge balls to actually sculpt everything by yourself.

>>23354075EG Nu is more modern, so it benefits alot from improved sculpting. However, for some retarded reason, Bandai created it without the funnels.

Talking about modeling magazine, Koyabashi used to summit a build of his fanfic gundam called Double Zeta Zwei. This gundam doesn't even have a face, just a gimbal.
>>23354095This looks familiar. Is it featured in that still image of a bunch of robots all flying in space?
>>23354095kobayashi used to be epic
now all he does is post on twitter about how he's better than modellers and has never touched a nipper in his life because he's a sculptor and repost custom builds of the hg baund doc instead of sculpting anything

My Mobile Gundam Base experience today for any anons interested in future stops:
>Selection kind of worse than last year
>But also kind of better?
>Last year had a fuck ton of clear High Grades, I know most people aren't a fan
>This year seemed like it had way less of random junk clear High Grades but a lot more "Base" exclusive items (even if half this shit shows up on P-Bandai randomly now)
>Base exclusive obviously does include some clears but they were fucking expensive ones like a clear Penelope
>Gold God Gundam which I've actually never seen before, $200 lmao
>No Ecopla???
Overall review: It was okay, line was retardedly short this year and I got the kits I wanted but I don't think I would have lost sleep if I missed it. Also I had a reason to be in the area.

I'm looking for a dark silver to use for aaliyah's frame. What do you recommend ? Maybe closer to a dark gunmetal. The silver parts will be gaia ex silver and the black armor parts will very likely be gaia frost mat black. All the red will be a flat candy red
>>23354385Just add a drop or two of clear black to your silver and mix it
>>23354404I do have some clear black lying around, thanks
Of course I respect the artist, the artist is me.

What thinner do I use from Tamiya?
I want to paint a kit
but I'm in the middle of working on another kit and I can't convince myself to start another one without finishing this guy
so in the meanwhile I'll build one of my bootlegs and color on it with paint markers like a googoo gaga baby
Can I get some advice on how to remove the stoppers from the fingers on the RG Zeong? Trying to pull/twist them out is killing my fingertips and I've also popped one of the fingers out of its connection.
Okay, I question how the Giant Shining Finger effect from the HGFC Shining Gundam holds on to the standard effect parts, even with the RG's metallic painted ones. I see PTSD on how many people attempt to place the effect on the hand, and it would just fall off, necessitating the use of Blu-Tack to make it barely hold on.

>>23354012Not a bad idea. The only thing I would ask instead is parts to make the Build Gundam Mk-II because the original kit is based on the one from 2001.
>>23354153I'm torn about whether or not to go. I couldn't make it last time because I had a conflict, but now the clostest stop they're making is 2 hours farther from me than last time's. It's still only 3 hours, but I dunno if it's worth it, especially if the selection hasn't meaningfully improved (although more gundam base exclusives gives me some hope). Part of me does want to do it just for the sake of having done it once though.
>>23354677what kind of markers?

i think il end up buying one of these because the boxart sold me on it
This P Bandai drop is particularly heinous to me because nearly all of these kits have been sitting in a warehouse in California for years, but still got slapped with a 50% price increase for no reason other than Bandai correctly believes they can trick retards with their bullshit excuses.

Why did Bandai make so many kits for AMAIM? Were they expecting it to be a huge hit or something?
I'm gonna buy like 3 Guncannons, I love the design so much.

has a 01 gundam kit been announced? If it ends up being pbandai, it'll at least be very easy to kitbash one with the lightcannon and the red gundam. the only actual part modification needed would be taking snipping the red gundam's vfin and attaching it to the head crest on the light cannon, then sticking that on the gundam body.

Water based, kinda smells like off brand peanut butter when you first take it out, slightly sand the plastic before applying and if it does pop up after drying just use some superglue to attach it make.
>>23355294>>23355296>>23355297Maybe I am getting mandela'd but I swear I saw the box before and it was smaller than this.

>>23355353Maybe you're just getting smaller.
>>23355397"If" being the key work.
Honestly not really considering that it's formed to where you place it and if it did pop off it's fairly straight forward and easy to super glue back. I've done it for several customs to increase the bond durability, normally heating a piece up in hot water, popping it off, then regluing it.
>>23351799If they ever make a larger scale Psycho (Mk1 or 2) I feel like it'd have the unique problem of being too BIG to transform
>>23352372They delayed it to change the shitty CG render that looks worse than the first MGs
>>23353535They need new RGs of classic MS designs
The RG Z'gok is from the SOVLFUL future we were robbed of; instead of innovative "realistic redesigns" of existing suits we just get undersized MGs for most of the price
>>23354017People don't pay 50 bucks for a model that looks like it was chewed up by a dog

>>23355454>People don't pay 50 bucks for a model that looks like it was chewed up by a dogInstead they pay for 50 for dogshit Chinese knockoff-lookalike.
>Model that looks like it was chewed up by a dogThis statement said everything about you, faggot.
>>23355454I don't know. Most of RG looks like they have teeth marks all over their bodies. Quite trash in my opinion.
>>23355491>Instead they pay for 50 dollar chinese knockoff-lookalikesNobody does this but you retard, quit projecting
>FaggotYou call me a faggot but would bend over for bandai to add battle damage instead of putting in your own work like any normal builder
Kill yourself
>>23355494You are obviously derailing from the topic i'm talking about here, typical faggot behavior. What i'm talking about is how Real Grade kits don't look realistic. They look like another pixiv tier fanfiction.
>Customize them! I can and i will. But i afraid you are not gonna like what i'm going to do to your precious RGs.
>>23355492If you think that looks bad imagine what it would look like if bandai "sculpted wear" into the kit itself
It would again, look like a chew toy
RGs are already the overall worst line, and that guys retarded take on how to "improve it by not appealing to the normies1!!1!1!11" would make it even worse
>>23355503You don't need to imagine. They already did and honestly, not bad. Just need some extra works and you are all set.
>>23355503I'm talking about battle damages on robots and you keep sperging about dog and being chewed. Are you okay?
>>23355492The problem is that Bandai cannot find a good balance between being a toy and a model kit.
>>23355492God, 2.0 is so ass. You gotta give it to other RGs, they are at least more subtle with the "inner frame poking through armor" gimmick. Here it feels like a parody shitpost /gpg/ would make
>wanna get a Dom to paint in Qirex livery
>just a silly little project, open to getting a bootleg for it
>look on aliexpress
>Tri-Stars' legacy permiates the very fabric of Dom so hard that the only bootleg I can find is a 3-pack of Chink Doms
They are cheaper per Dom than an official kit, but the fuck am I going to do with two extra Doms?
>>23355500Nobody is derailing the topic, anyways if you spent less time bitching over how Bandai's plastic model line doesn't look like an actual robot with fully functioning metallic parts and heavy armor on 4chan you would've had one customized by now
"Typical faggot behavior" is what you call complaining about bandai (the company that doesn't do shit) not doing shit, because they only want to appeal to "le normie"
If you wanted a realistic model that badly you'd save up and buy a PG
>>23355511I shouldn't have to customize anything, faggot. It's Bandai's job to make something that looks like a real giant robot out of the box.
>>23355510>the fuck am I going to do with two extra Doms?Same thing, but in different colors
>>23355513>It's Bandai's job to make something that looks like a real giant robot out of the box.Real badass speech there, anon. Bandai shouldn't sculpt anything, just sell us a 50 dollars block of ps plastic and we should work from there.
>>23355513The fact of it is it's never going to actually look like a real giant robot, wanna know why?
Because it's not one, it's a small plastic robot
Keep in mind most of the "realistic detail" comes from those shitty little stickers that don't even blend in with the surface colors
>>23355492>Big problem with 1.0 is the poor (for the grade) articulation>Do we simply fix the issue with 2.0 and stay faithful to the design>No lets poke four score holes in the Gundam famous for its blocky design and impenetrable armor.
>>23355519I like the idea but I think it would be better as a large PC slab instead
>>23355521That is why the "sense of scale" term is applied. Sure it is a tiny plastic toy, but you have to make a diorama to make an illusion and sometimes weathering, battle damages, etc if your build is to create a war machine. It is understandable that not everyone around here can pull it, the sources to make things like these are very costly.
My question toward RG is that, for something Bandai boasts about "realistic", they don't look realistic. It is the same toyetic designs, doesn't look smooth and stylish enough to pass a sport cars and doesn't look ultitarian enough to pass as a war machine. And as i said above, to morph a RG kit into something gritty and brutal, it will take alot of money and resources to be made possible. If Bandai named it as something like " High Grade Plus" or " Advanced Grade", it would be much more appropriate name.
if you think weathering is expensive you are either poor, retarded, or a third world shitter
You fags would do anything other than working on the backlog
