One of the reasons I love Glimmy much more is because she was a lonely mare learning friendship to heal her soul while Sparkle has this coldness to her academic curiosity. Like Glimmy would not rely on a How-to-sleepover book as if friendship was a solved equation, she is the type to forge her own path through ingenuity and diplomacy so perhaps she'd ask what the others think about sleepovers first then try coming up with a compromise or solution that she thinks everypony will enjoy.

I think Glimmer is a psychopath but not in like "she did le bad thing" but more like she doesn't have a theory of mind.

Her behavior seems to line up, she's always calm unless she deems something threatens her and her expressions are typically subtle. A lot of the time she has a blank expression with her eyes and mouth, background characters with blank expressions are usually smiling I think, so that's probably the pony equivalent of the deathglare.

That probably explains her reaction to Sunburst, she genuinely did not understand why he was nice to her but left. It explains why she changes her actions but seems to behave the same way after she was disciplined "reformed". She likely doesn't really understand what she's doing wrong she just follows what Twilight says.

I also find it amusing that she gravitates toward Trixie, being the known insecure character. This is probably why people get upset at her as a character even if she's not 'bad' in a technical sense.

Starlight is the polar opposite of a psychopath. She cares deeply about others' feelings to the detriment of herself at times: her abandonment led to severe depression and insecurities, she thought she was unworthy to be Sunburst's friend, she thought the m6 would abandon her if she wasn't good at their hobbies, she thought Trixie would abandon her if she showed any kind of displeasure, she held extreme guilt over her past mistakes while literally having nightmares over her own perceived unworthiness of being forgiven, she was gaslit by Twilight into having a nightmare over the possibility of endangering the world over the princesses, she overworked herself trying to help as many students as possible, and she sacrifices herself for the sake of Equestria multiple times over.

Starlight is always thinking about others over personal gain, wanting to help solve others' problems, wanting to understand others on a deeper level, wanting ponies to live happily and peacefully, and her enduring philosophy is about the benefit of the whole. She made friends with all sorts of different ponies that others have trouble understanding and getting along with, like she sussed out what her chaos god friend was sperging over, and she's open to understanding and forgiving villains. Even during her days as a villain herself, the purpose of her village was to spare others from the suffering that she felt growing up. Starlight's entire character is based on empathy, a pony driven by very strong emotions and beliefs.

That's eisegesis. All you need to do is follow the logical escalation of abandonment and its effect on her life growing up, remember that it occurred when she was an innocent and naive filly. Another factor to remember is that ponies are a lot more fragile than humans.

What sets her apart from the other villains is that she was the only one with empathy which is how she was able to be reasoned with. All of the others were psychopaths that needed a rainbow laser to stop/brainwash them. The only reason she was a villain in the first place was over a misunderstanding of cutie marks.

I'm guessing you are referring to her reformation. Starlight had the most believable switch out of any of the reformed villains (Discord didn't even really switch, more like he became obedient over Fluttershy, I think the psychopathic protagonist you are looking for is Discord), she retained much of her personality but was foisted into a strange new environment which put her in a very vulnerable position revealing her weaknesses. Also you have to remember that her time in Our Town was her playing the role of a strict mother figure, it wasn't entirely her true personality, and in the finale she was angry and filled with bitterness so that wasn't entirely her true personality either. The most complete Starlight in her natural state is found in s7+ after she overcomes many of her insecurities and we see her in more relaxed scenarios. But they're all a part of her in the end, all different phases of her life in different situations, they all add up to one amazing mare. Starlight is a very complex character for a kids show so I can understand how some people get confused.

Yeah, I think you may just have a totally different definition of social anxiety and psychopathy. Clinically, Starlight is nearly the opposite of a psychopath in the spectrum because of her high level of empathy allowing her to understand others, her cartoonish impulsivity is really the only trait to match. Ponies that better fit the mental illness with the least contradictions are Twilight and Pinkie, but Discord is the best subject you are looking for.

I'm very happy for Starlight and Trixie becoming better ponies and living their best lives in canon, they're inspirational mares to me and I don't want to change that one bit. But I do quite like unapologetically evil villains too, the idea of them staying as villains and taking over the world in an AU is a fun thought. Even a scenario with Twilight turning evil and transforming which is ironically very possible after all her friends die from old age, would've been a badass way to start g5.

Speaking of g5, I love Opaline more than even Chryssy. For all of its faults, Opaline was an amazing villain so much so I was rooting for her to successfully take over the world. It would have given the heroes a great arc trying to restore friendship in order to overthrow her, that is how I would have liked s1 in FiM to go: Luna is successful and Twilight has to make friends one by one in a season long arc. Such kino is too anime for the targeted demographic though.
