I was, and yes last years was ABYSMAL, but there's no reason to think that the next year wouldn't be better after everyone complained about it - if not at least to see if it did improve. Glad to say it did improve - even with some still standing issues, but they weren't nearly as bad. A few items did start far too high, and killed momentum.

An aside: To the auction/charity staff if they read the threads - PLEASE keep starting bids on most normal auction items at most to $100 and let people raise the bid on their own - starting very high absolutely murders the vibe in the room and any momentum the auction had built up until then, and then makes the charity seemed forced. Letting people bid on it themselves and drive it themselves always has a better result - evidenced by this year with items that you had to talk down and then got bid right back up to that original ask once the audience was free to war it up themselves. Also, this happened much less this year, but for fuck sake stop pleading with the audience "c'mon guys - its for charity! YOU LIKE THE HORSES RIGHT? COME ON!" - it screams desperation and makes the audience feel forced.

It's almost as if the people making this fun stuff prefer a looser, more free-wheeling environment that encourages it to happen in the first place.
As a creative, Mare Fair gets me hyped up and inspired every year in ways that other bland cons simply do not. And I'm not just talking about the existing art getting me hyped up, I'm talking about all of it. The experience of the con itself.
If your idea of "culture" is strong socially-aware principles and not simply having a good time
shooting the shit with the lads and laughing at shared memes, more power to you - I won't judge what you care about - but you should at least connect the dots.

overall a great party, saw a few friends and made at least 2-3 new ones

I had a shit time. There was no post-con depression, that shit lasted from day one to a week later. No mareaoke night, no game night, no small scale drinking party, got to visit maybe three panels before I got too sick to leave my room, made no good friends, and even those I came to Florida to meet never bothered to visit me knowing I was sick and alone.

I think seeing all the projects from years' past and being worked on that year made me feel like I had to do something big and special in order to feel worthy of participating and of my santee. But being inexperienced at what I was trying to do and generally being too nervous to start on it because I didn't wanna fuck it up kinda doomed me.

Blogposting Mare Fair 3 thoughts, some $7k later:
Had a way more intense experience this year, doing more panels, more driving and selling stuff.
Had even less time to actually meet up/hang out with other anons. Probably not going to do as much next year.
Of all the panels I was responsible for, Plushies on Adventures was the only one I actually managed to prepare the slides before running it. Despite having a morning Saturday slot, turn out was pretty good.
Despite having 162 slides this year compared to 115 slides, the presentation still took just about 35 min. If I'm doing this next year, maybe 200 slides will take 35 min. Hard part is finding new photos for each year to keep it somewhat fresh, maybe a pause next year.
The China panel seemed to have a good turn out, I hope everyone found it interesting despite it mostly being a recollection of my very brief experience of the Chinese fandom.
The how2anon panel got like 5 participants, probably among the least of any panel during the con.
Driving the Cope Van took up all time Wednesday and Thursday, it was appreciated well enough, so it'll most likely happing again. It was pretty wild that the banners and sticker pack went for $400 in the charity auction.
Fancy Dinner had the highest turn out of all Fancy Dinners to date, with about 45 participants, I do think it went well enough, and we got to fill out half the indoor seating of the place.
Vending scarves was an experience as well, probably should have just done preorders and pick ups at con.
Was a little bit sad that the Horsefucker Hot Tub Wine didn't get auctioned off due to time, which means it'll be back with the 2026 vintage next Mare Fair.
Ended up with about 3300 photos, about 1300 fewer than last year.
