True words.
I used to appreciate Beato, not for his opinions or anything, but for the amount of top tier guitarists he manages to get into his basement.
But man is the guy shit at doing interviews, bland questions, always just nodding along "uh oh that is soo amazing". It's a feat how some of his interviews are 1 hour of empty talk.

I used to prefer jumbo, as I’ve gotten older and the longer I’ve played I like vintage size. I like the frets low to the fretboard. My one electric with jumbos is doable for me but also just doesn’t feel good to me. If it wasn’t a cheap guitar I’d have it refretted but regretting a $500 guitar with a bound neck will cost a decent chunk of the whole value of the guitar
>>127409216
They were decent strings. They rusted really quickly for me. I bought a few sets of basic 9s and 10s in one order and when they were through I didn’t reorder. It’s cool that they have custom gauge sets though, that would be really handy having shipped to your door rather than piecing something together yourself with what you find locally.

yes it can also fix guitars that didn't have nut slots cut correctly and the strings are binding. may have to back the truss rod off an 1/8 of a turn if the neck is already flat. the only time this is a problem is if the guitar only has enough relief and is barely playable with the 10s on there

Also I’m guessing I should also be able to just to random notes so what are exercises for that since I’m guessing just knowing to play the scale is not going to allow me to skip randomly otherwise it messes the pattern. Also how long will this take? Want an idea so I know if I’m fucking up and not making good progress.

Your question was too specific not to be a quiz but I'll bite. As anon said learn the minor pentatonic to sound musical as quickly as possible.
To build a good foundation, though, learn the major scale, particularly the C major scale. Western music is based off of the major scale, and when you learn it you'll likely be shown a piano to help with visualization. C is right in the middle of the frequency range of a piano and all of the keys of the C major scale are the simple white keys on a piano so its easiest.

Not in that sense no. Different chord inversions move the root note around anyway. If you're arpeggiating for the sake of sweeps or runs having the notes in ascending and descending order helps but the best don't rely on that.

I’m guessing that wasn’t you, right? Someone in a previous thread said not to memorize 40 chords. Does it come from the same place as this guy or is there some logic to it or what? Also what logic can is there to not learning scales, that you’d learnt them any by playing so you don’t need deliberate practice?

>>127412985
the logic is you should learn a scale and figure out how the notes that aren't in it sound by ear. new players figure this out on their own with cowboy chords by hammering on a note here or there, moving the shape up or down a few frets etc. your subconscious thought process is faster when you learn be ear because there is less to think about. the other problem you run into when learning scales is that you will eventually make a mistake when playing. your instinct should either be to slide or bend your way out of it or embellish it to set yourself up to resolve the note. really the biggest reason none of this matters is that melody and interesting playing is 80% rhythm anyway. btw keep in mind you asked if you should learn all the "positions". that's what is the waste of time. this is going to hurt a lot of feelings but your favorite players and most peoples favorite players knew very little if any theory. people that know big theory are jazz players and their "inprovising" is either just rephrasing the melody or running scales. there's a reason practically no one can name famous jazz guitarists

Not me, but I tend to agree, especially early on. Learning a bunch of chords out of context isn't very helpful. I'd memorize your open "cowboy chords". Lots of fun to be had and songs to play just using those. Then come the movable chord grips, or barre chords, this is where CAGED comes in. Then triads, then you can build your own chords. Eventually As for scales I would recommend learning just one position of the major scale well, maybe just one octave to start, then add in the others as you feel comfortable. Learn the intervals, sing them. Sing your scales, I'm serious, this will put you way ahead. Actually, sing everything you play. Making this a habit now will pay off big time.
One step at a time.

It depends what you want. You may not NEED theory, but it's interesting and can open a lot of doors with not very much of it. Like learning about keys and chord progressions with the roman numeral system. I wanted to know everything about guitar and music, and being interested in classical guitar, theory was a natural avenue to go down. It's your path, you get to choose. Just have fun along the way and the main thing is to play with balls, with passion. If you're serious, and you can, get a teacher until you can guide yourself. It would have saved me a lot of time.

Anon, need your advice. My cheap tele is dead, repair costs more than it's worth. Thinking of moving on, maybe something different from a tele or strat. After trying out a friend's strandberg, I really want a headless guitar. Problem is that even a used strandberg is way out of my budget. I got around $300-400.
So, I have two options. Chinese headless named mctang. Found one in my price range. But I am worried about the fretboard, it is an artificial rosewood. Also worried if I'll be able to sell it later to raise money for a real Strandberg.
The other option is a normal superstrat, maybe a budget Ibanez idk. The obvious choice, but I'm too much into a headless now.
I can also just save up money for a real Strandberg, but $1500 is big. I could put that toward my mortgage.
Thoughts? Any other options I'm missing? Appreciate any advice.

But at the end of the day what am i left with?
Won’t I gain more by knowing enough theory to identify the chords so that I can then just know that that sings uses abc chords in such and such progressions and then learn it faster and not forget it as easily? And then too I can also train my ears to listen to those progressions and chords.
>>127413212
So what is your alternative though? Am I supposed to just play random notes and see what sounds good together and develop my own theoretical system?
I don’t really know what actually makes you a guitarist, just mimicking songs isn’t it don’t feel cause of what I wrote above. Being able to hear a tune and play it is more like it, but how would I go about developing that? Would it come from playing so many songs you kinda absorb the music intuitively? Then maybe the best approach is to speed run very easy songs so you get as many under your belt as quickly as possible.
>teacher
Yeah, but I assume they are just going to do scales and then give me a song. I can do that myself for now. Maybe later they can correct some issues and guide me a bit but I’m struggling understanding the process. If you’re familiar with language learning I want basically the immersion approach for guitar instead of the grammar book.

theyre NOT the chinese, and rly dont like the chinese all that much, so they actually give a shit in regards to what theyre doing/producing. which is a scarce commodity on the china. china is the land of "good enough" and "you get what you pay for" stacked on top of each other into the rough shape of a society

But I assume they aren’t keeping track from the start of the song. So jumping in how do they know that their 2, 4 isn’t actually the 1, 3 was my question.
But I asked chatgpt and with ai guidance I listened to a funk song and the lyrics start one beat behind when the drums beat so I’m guessing that’s what they mean by 2,4. There is the measure where music changes or comes in like the lyrics and then there is where the drum hits.

The only thing holding Indonesian and Chinese guitars back from being as good as Japanese / USA models is the low end hardware and paint they force them to use. My Chinese epi and Indonesian revstar are built just as well as my American guitars if not in some cases better.

nta but this is going to be personal preference. a lot of teachers want you to practice scales using a specific fingering in order to make transitions during solos easier, and while that is certainly forward focused and beneficial, over time you're going to figure out what works best for you anyway. for example, I use a lot of slides and hammer on/pull offs in solos and tend use my middle finger and pinky over my index and ring finger at the start of a pattern to make string skipping easier. practice them using various types of fingering and figure out what works for you. you're on the right track in terms of practicing them starting on every note as well.

More than you would expect, yeah. Emperor (though they've been sketchy recently), atlas, omega, off the top of my head, and I have seen smaller companies making similar quality cabs as well. I've heard rumblings about Vader doing another run soon and I wish I had hung on to my old 412 because I'm sure they will go quick, though I don't think they're necessarily better than the aforementioned builders and are more on par with Mesa oversized cabs, which are great cabs in their own right. I guess you'd just call them custom speaker cabinet builders. It's a niche market for sure but man, they are certainly worth the investment especially if you're touring.

>Garbage bridge
What’s garbage about it? The Mustang bridge is the best offset bridge Fender designed. If your bridge radius matches the fretboard radius you shouldn’t need to adjust individual string height. Adjust overall height of the bridge or individual sides to give it some clearance on the bass side and you’re good. Adjust the height of the vibrato unit to get good break angle and you’re good, with good break angle the bridge will rock on its posts and hold tune. If it really, really bothers you buy a Mastery.
>garbage electronics
What’s garbage about them? That you can’t swap pickups as quick as with a toggle switch? With practice you can swap just fine. The pickups? Yeah they’re thin sounding and lower output but they’re nothing more than slightly underworld Strat pickups with flat pole pieces and plastic covers. They’re not too different in sound than 1950s Strat pickups. Use an EQ pedal or literally any form of boost. You wouldn’t be able to tell them apart from a Strat if you stay on the neck or bridge. If they really bug you stick any Strat pickups in you want.
>garbage neck
It’s literally no different than a Jaguar neck, there’s nothing special about it and any other Fender neck other than the short scale.
>with a jumbo headstock
Ok? That doesn’t do anything.
>that dives
No it doesn’t. Have you ever even played any Fender guitar with a large headstock? It doesn’t feel any different than any other Fender neck.
>They look like something you’d buy out of a sears catalog. They’re fucking ugly.
That’s just your opinion man. They look like a squeezed Strat.
>Kirk sucked at guitar

Music is like speaking a language of sound. Notes are letters. Try communicating to someone only using letters without words. Chords the are words. You need both melody and harmony (notes and chords respectively) to tell stories and communicate in music. Try playing a piano with only using notes (Chopsticks), then listen to anyone who can actually play the thing who uses a chord. See the difference?

The abr-1 bridge is zinc alloy
The tuners are plastic and nickel.
The nut is plastic
The knobs are plastic.
The frets are nickel
The only steel parts on a Gibson Les Paul are the bridge posts and the input jack plate. They’re made by niggers and illegals in Nashville who don’t give a fuck about quality. Think about it, would you rather have your guitar made by DEI minority hires in America, or Asians in Asia. At least Indonesian, Korean, and Chinese guitars are made by and supervised by their respective race. American guitars are slapped together by actual 70 iq niggers and English as a second language retarded beaners. USA fenders and gibsons have been a fucking joke for decades.

If you have pain in your elbow you have compressed a nerve by leaning on something too long. It is not good. It can take weeks to months to heal from inflammation if it gets too bad. I have had this problem off and on from compartmentalized pressure on the ulnar nerve. If indeed you're experiencing that, get some Voltaren Extra Strength gel and rub that shit on your elbow area and then get 2 ice gel packs and use it until warm then swap it out and get the other one from the freezer. Have fun. This can grow into a serious injury that affects your entire forearm, wrist and hand if you fuck around too much with this nerve.

I'd say there are multiple levels of "giving up".
There are the guys that give up completely after a very short time and don't touch their guitar again, which is clearly the majority. But I assume anon wouldn't count those as guitar players (anymore).
There is also a large chunk of guitarists that give up early on learning or improving, but will continue forever with regularly noodling the same 2 songs and 3 riffs they learned during their first months.

Yeah but those arent guitarists. I'm saying 90% of guitarists live in a small creative box and can't play with other musicians without having their hand held. Being able to improvise using the scales i mentioned puts you ahead of those people.

I also like playing rhythm more than lead but can play lead just fine, I just think rhythm with lots of chord changes and more intricate chords are way more fun. Jamming with people at guitar nights at the local shop people act so snobby when you say no thanks when they ask if you want to solo but then they struggle to keep in time playing their simple power chords, it’s funny.

Gave me a good excuse to wipe down and take the trem off my Vintera Jag. I loosened the spring up a little bit and not it feels almost as good as my new FSR Jaguar. Now that I’m set on Mustangs and Jaguars I think I’ll set my sights on a more traditional JM and Deluxe Telecaster

I'm the one that gave the advice: Excellent to hear. Be mindful of that in future. You'll be fine but watch getting out of bed for a while (when you slide around to stand up, one tends to use their elbow on the bed as an anchor and push off spot). If you crush that nerve in the elbow too much you'll get a lightning/fire burning zap feeling and you'll never forget it. Similar to a funny-bone bang but worse. Anyhow, glad you're doing better.
