I played heavy gauge strings on fender scale lengths for most of the years I played until I got carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve damage on both hands and elbows. Now since I’ve had surgery I’ve switched to 9’s on fender, 10’s on gibson’s and use lighter picks. (For e standard / e flat.) I would use heavier strings for drop tuning. Evh used extra lights tuned to e flat, and gibbons used even lighter. So did bb king. You can get monster tones with light strings and avoid doing permanent nerve damage to your hands and arms.

Yeah 11s are a bit much in standard tuning even for someone who has 150lbs of grip strength. I also like doing a ton of whole to 2 step bends, and wide vibrato in between shredding which is difficult when you’re putting all your effort into the bends. 11-54 are fine for rhythm on a Les Paul scale length tho.

i once knew a guitarist who's rg550 exploded in the middle of a set. he was a 12-56 user and i guess the screws holding the plate to the far end of the springs picrel just gave out and tore themselves out of the body.
basically the screw holes just prolapsed from the tension. he got it fixed by drilling out the holes and putting in fresh wood to drill into.

imo guitar is a drum. you need to be able to hit it hard, AND soft, and have it make different noises. lighter strings means that upper limit is greatly diminished. 10s ill at least play. 11s are better, and those ones i posted, with the heavier bottoms and 11s on top, are the slipper that fits.

the only neck thats ever btfo from them was a teisco that didnt even have a trussrod, so i think you guys are kinda overestimating the tension that actually comes from 11s. its not that big a jump from 10s. and the heavier bottom strings dont really add that much. you just gotta adjust some bridge stuff and its fine

I think I might return the jazzmaster. Im not sure if guitar is clicking for me like bass or piano. I like owning a guitar but it may just be because I like hearing guitars. I pick it up for about 15 minutes a day but with bass im playing at least an hour and I'm doing 30-45 minutes of piano youtube practice that just kinda flys by. So, I wound up trying turmeric since I know it stains literally everything forever. I filled a cooking sheet with a mixture of warm water and turmeric powder, then let the pickguard soak in it for an hour. Maybe a bit yellower than I wanted, but it worked. It also helped even out the lighter area where the sticker was.

took me a few months to get GCD transitions to 100bpm and another few months to get Bmin barre chords up to 70bpm. another month or two from 70bpm to 90bpm. it's a slog but like i said one of the more time consuming things to learn on guitar. just do 10 mins of solid practice to a metronome every day and look at the results every month. it's better than doing on hour once a week
