Looking for my next bike. Currently own a first gen SV650s. Looking for something similar but with more power
>lightweight
>sporty
>comfortable for tall riders
I was thinking about the Honda Firestorm (VTR 1000). Seems fairly similar but a bit more serious overall. Like 30 more hp and not much heavier. Thoughts, recommendations?

Forgot to mention, but I'm not interested in nakeds. Supersports are cool as fuck but usually too uncomfortable. Hence the SV650s and VTR1000. Still sporty but actually comfortable

No problem if you ride on the weekend sometimes in the summer and log 1000miles a year but I'd never trust them for anything more than that without constant niggling (but not catastrophic) failures.

One of my original riding friends from 2 years ago "lost interest in street riding" and only does track now and doesn't talk to us anymore. He used to talk so much about how great friends we are and how glad he was that he met us.
Meanwhile, my other riding friend never said such things. He's just always there being a good friend, making time to ride with me when he can, even after he got a busier job. Still talks with me even if we go a month without riding together.

Beware the ones who run their mouth a lot.

It was the 20V high-ish pressure washer, some feeler gauges, and did forget what the third item was so I just bought some microfiber towels.
Turns out I wanted a pair of right angle circlip pliers and to use a cupon for a tree parts tray, but I forgot the last two things. I'll stop some other time when I have more than two things to buy.

new to me. Budget upto like 6k eurodollars, though it's not burning a hole in my pocket so I'm not set on spending it all if I don't have to. For example, I found a mint VTR1000 for โ‚ฌ3.3k.
Wouldn't mind something more recent per se, but I generally find the old bikes more aesthetic.
>>28455803
kek yeah would be cool. Good luck finding one though

Can't really relate to that. Good and preventative maintenance + ethanol free gas have gone a long way for me. If you get a nice example ofcourse. If you buy a ratty bike, yes you'll own a ratty bike.

Okay, guess I'm riding tomorrow, kek.

Also I'm disappointed the kick starter doesn't let me just start the bike without electricity mad max style like its the post-apocalypse. I guess that would be too easy, electricity still needed. I'm learning more about engines at least with this new hobby.

Drop the bike and get it over with.
Play with your bike, if it falls it falls and you pick it back up.
it's the only way you'll improve. The point you're no longer afraid of dropping it you'll improve your low speed maneuvering.
inb4 boomers that can't ride at 3 mph saying a low speed drop completely fucks up a bike.

a battery that's completely dead will not get enough charge in 20 mins of just idling.
hell, it might be properly toast if there's a parasitic on it for too long.

All things considered they're about the same, but the monster uses timing belts. the belts are easy to change, but they can really fuck up the engine if not taken care of properly.
Also, I like wet clutches better. but the 900cc engine is supposedly just plain fantastic.

Just realized that I like bobbers.
Redpill me on bobbers.
They're just aesthetic, right?
Are they uncomfortable?

What is your opinion on cyclop vs diclops vs triclop bikes?
I prefer diclops like pic related, but some people like cyclop bikes (yikes)
Have yet to see a triclops

The 929 is special. They aren't making any more of them. You will regret it forever if you sell before you have a son who rides or you get too old. The RC51 is a meme bike yeah, but not so expensive or rare you can't save up to buy it as well.

>Redpill me on bobbers.
I remember them getting really popular in the 00s-10s. Hipsters moved on from cafe racers and started chopping up cheap sportsters and hard tailing them emulating the old styles from 60s and 70s. Bobbers are just super stripped down bikes. usually hard tail. I remember people getting pissy if you called their chop a bobber kek. Chop cult is a good site if you want to see some cool shit.

By that i mean my boomer wisdom of working with wrenches for a living. I dont have a torque wrench
And i didnt died tonights ride to church, so theres that
Also the chain response was so much better after that, really pulls now
I used the kando technique as according to the Haneโ„ข service manuals, aka something that doesnt real needs not ought to be pretended to be real
Case in point: torque wrenches and not having the manboy strongarm to whipcheck that NUT to just right tight

It's a fullsize frame bike, the Grom isn't. I live in BurgerLand so the 700 would generally be the superior option (and the 125 isn't even sold), but if your license or prohibitive registration expenses limit you to a 125, it's going to be the same 125 Yamaha puts in all of their other bikes to compete in SE Asia and will probably be a nice ride.

Now, imagine a transalp, but weighs more, goes slower, air-cooled, basically a mule and will take you anywhere. But half the price. I can't wait anon. I'm excited for this bike. As a poor thirdie, this will be the best option for touring for me. If the tarrifs weren't fucked, I'd own a transalp.

What, we don't have enough heavy ass touring bikes that larp as dirt bikes? Manufacters don't seem to understand that when we're chasing a <400lbs twin in the 400-650cc range, we're not doing it because a Vsttom 650 costs too much. We want it because the fucker weighs too much and the fairings are going to bust to shit the first time the bike slide out from under you in sand.

We just want our (slightly) detuned rally bike with a nicer seat, ABS that you can turn off, and a 6th gear.

We will never get that, 400 to 450, they will make it so that it is A2 compliant. So its fucked to be pig fat and low power. It will never make good torque and in the right RPM being under 650 because emission norms (rally bikes are not limited by this), it will have to be larger than 650, lot of pig fat and still underwhelming. To make the pig appealing, they give us 9" nigger screen, TC, all the other features. If they could do it, Honda / BMW would've already done this and they would be making bank. Its a shit world with shit rules.

Anyway, RE is entirely out of this and they are in their own lane, trying to appeal to the retro, simple crowd and the cheap as shit because poor crowd, IDK until when they can keep doing this because RE is increasing quality and it has to eat into their profits and they have started rolling our water cooled engines, so let's see how long they can keep pretending.

Yep, it's practically a race machine. The only thing that bothers me about the RD is I can't reach the ground, but tbdes I don't use it as a daily rider anymore so it's kind of a moot point.
I did see an R1-Z for sale a few weeks ago and I came in my pants. The TZR is smaller than the RD and the R1 is even smaller than the TZR. There was an SDR 200 next to it but I think that's just too small and light even for me.

That's a dedicated enduro though. Narrow seat, 9L fuel tank, 300lbs, that's a real dual sport.

I'm going to blaspheme for a moment, but if Suzuki really wanted to fill that gap, the dr650 is coming up on 30 years of the SE. They could release it with EFI (because emission laws), gel seat with tail rack, skid plate, rally tower, maybe include some aluminum hand guards for a change, and bring back the RSE. Let's be honest, that's what 80% of people are using their 650 for anyway, because who wants a 350lbs dirt bike?

I feel like a DR refresh is pretty likely now that the DR-Z finally got one. Be ready for it to cost $12k and still be basically the same bike but with EFI and an LED headlight though.

I've said this a few times lately but I think the best hope is the KLE (Versys) 450/500 that Kawi teased last year. That stands a decent chance of being a relatively light (under 400) and powerful enough twin that still manages to have some off road cred.

Fuck, can't find the pic of my Derbi DRD Pro I had like 2 decades ago, dropped in a bidalot 98cc big bore kit with a stroker crank, 36mm carb and a massive 72 tooth rear sprocket, affectionately called the pizza plate. Can't remember for the life of me the exhaust I was running, but it was ear piercingly loud.
Thing did like 120kmh on the straights and would pop the frontend towards the sky at 80kmh if you twisted it a bit harder.
We dynoed 32hp from the rear wheel at my school.

Like how you found joy in lil Soviet bike, I found it in a lil 125 scoot. Its fun for short rides. Its breaks are good, twitchy lil wheels, lots of fun. Similarly, I tested vstrom 250 and himmy, I liked the standing up to ride, the bikes suspension just eating bad roads. It's great. I'm waiting to buy an adv.

It's used for releasing the navigator.
Thankfully I never use it so I just keep it off. In the last 8months of ownership of the bike my only interaction with the GPS has been removing it and sending it out to Garmin for a recall/warranty program and I haven't installed the new unit on because I haven't even opened the package. It's in the garage somewhere. If I were to install it I would not be able to take it off.
But the design of the cradle still annoys me. It's nice that the key is matched to the bike, but that's about it. They put all these sticky-out bits in between the rider and the power button. Not the first time something catches a sleeve or a glove cuff, but the first time I've managed to break something.
I plan to email garmin and ask for step files if I can't the cradle taken apart this weekend. Fuck this shit.

Anybody have a handy recommendation for a way to pack up all wrenches, spoons, foot pump, front and rear tubes so they can just be dropped all together in saddle bags?

Yeah, maybe more like 420-430 given that the Versys 300 is 380. That'd still put it at the lighter end of ADVs though and possibly the lightest twin, and being a Kawasaki instead of an Indian bike or a CFMoto would count for a lot even if it were equal on paper to something like the Ibex.

I'd actually be really tempted by the 660, people seem to love them and it's about in the range I'm looking for in my next bike (T7 is the leading contender) but I'm about 3 hours from the nearest Aprilia dealer and that feels way too iffy with an Italian bike.

If you move somewhere with different weather, at first, you will be laughing at the locals for complaining. But then a year or two later you'll develop their sense of weather and start bitching about the """sweltering""" 25c heat yourself.

Probably being acclimatized to a cooler climate, more than anything else. I recently moved from a place where it hits the 110s in the summer sometimes and 90 is a "cool" day to one summers are mostly 70-80 and 90 is rare, and when we did have a couple of 90 days recently it felt way hotter to me than it would have in my old city. Humidity could be a factor for the UK too but it isn't where I am. Some people also claim that the same temperature feels hotter further north because of sun angle and that could definitely be a factor for both where I live (800mi north of where I was before) and the UK.

It doesn't even take that long, somebody did a study and it only takes about 2 weeks to acclimatize. I moved to my current city in January, after living somewhere that averages 30+ degrees warmer, and at first I was freezing my balls off while layered to all hell in thermals, a sweater, a puffer, and an outer shell, but by the end of the month I was comfortably going out in a flannel and a medium jacket.

>Do V Twin vibrate more than V4
Yes, significantly different.
>Started on a VFR
Based but unfortunately you're now spoiled and will be left with disappointment as you realize how great those machines are.

V4s are naturally buttery smooth
V2s have half the clyinders so they have to do twice the work so to speak for firing order which gives more vibrations

3500 is kind of the bottom range of that engine, it likes to be between 3,000-8,000. The 700 also comes with rather small bar end weights, buying 900 weights will damp the vibration in the bars more.

Try those temps in the us south east coast. We have stupid hogh humidity that makes everything above 70 have felt temps in 90-100 range. Its 65% humidity and up from March to November down here in western NC.
