After riding a cruiser for the first time, I was looking at old goldwings and cheap visions. It's such a crazy looking bike, and I think it has an aluminum frame. You can still find them with low miles for relatively inexpensive.

Victory is unironically reliable as fuck and most their bikes use the same engine so part compatability is nuts.

My favorite victory is the Octane, which oddly enough has more lean angle than the scout amongst other improvements.

You know, I don't even hate bicycles.
I enjoy riding my bicycle.
If fact, I think they're better than motorcycles in ways.
You can take them places you cant fit a motorcycle, you can even carry the thing if you hate too.
I cannot for the life of me justify a bicycle costing more than ~$1000.
There's people out there assembling functional motors and transmissions for far less than that.

It's called marketing young anon, and victory was not that good at it let alone convincing the bleed heart harley/indian enthusiasts. They tried to sell during the American chopper era of crusier culture and when that bubble popped, nobody cared for that aesthetic anymore. By the time they cleaned up their image with the Vision, Vegas, and Octane it was just too late. Indian had the soul, the roots to grow from. Victory was just too new too quick. If they released their lineup now with zoomers and millenials amuck that would absolutely change. They're a good American brand.
>>28463001
Shorter gears, bigger cams, more lean angle, 4 more hp, slightly different suspension setup. Apparently the Indian only uses 30% of the parts of the octane.

Mine is loud and slow.
Looks nice and has no lean angle either.
The brakes are really bad too.
I really like it, I've had drunk women catcalling me and old guys telling me how nice it looks.
I like to go out to the country side of my state and just cruise through the fields, looking at things.
I'll even take it up to mountains and drag my floorboards around.
The heavy weight makes it feel so planted and stable.
I'd really like a Street Glide or even Road King for touring, but I love how nice the chrome looks.

Everything is old fashioned and kinda shitty, but on purpose.
It's very eclectic bit I kind of enjoy how sketchy it is, and the seat is very comfortable.
The brand new HDs are all very modern now though, they don't have the, "sitty, but in purpose" feel of some of the Twin Cams.
Also, my oil tank is real, on the M8 softails its a fairing.
Stupid little details like that.

These things are a bitch to work on.
My pipes block the fucking axles so I have to remove the exhaust bracket and shove the pipes down to slip the axle out over all of that chrome...
Dynas are the affordable used bike to modify but they shake hard really badly.
Sportsters, the engine is literally backwards from the rest of the main line bikes.
I'd say get a carbed Evo of some sort but parts are drying up for those too

For several years now, my dad has been slowly restoring his 64 sportster for me to take over. Last summer we had it repainted in the same blue color he painted it 40 years ago, and even found the same old style decals for the tank.

Right now it is almost put back together, just had a new battery and some other parts. He still hasn't started it yet, but he is very old and his knee is bad so I'm not even sure if he physically can kick the starter hard enough. He hasn't ridden this bike since the 90s; he gave up riding when my older siblings were born.

NTA but I think he means sportster engines have the final drive on the right side of the bike, all the other models have it on the right side. The low rider was a dyna, when the dyna line was put out of production they re-introduced it as a softail. Same as the fat bob and maybe some other model I'm forgetting. Both sportsters and dynas have the two rear shocks on the back but dynas have a bigger frame/engine basically. The bike you pictured is a sporty.

I have never had a ticket or an accident, and It still took years for my car insurance to get below 200 a month. Insurance is fucking expensive for a single dude under 25 now. It's no wonder young guys aren't trying to ride now. There's no way in hell I could have afforded it back then.

The sportster has the primary, or the belt side on the other side.
There's some reason for it but I forgot.
The big engine bikes have the belt on the left.
It doesn't matter now because the nusportster is a water cooled thing from SE Asia.
The touring bikes are the hardbagged bikes.
The other bikes are the "small" bikes with the same engines, but sometimes a lower displacement by a few inches.
The bike everyone lifts and modifies for performance outside of the touring bikes is the Low Rider, usually.
The stunt bikes are usually modified Low Riders, or Sportster 883's.
Sportster 883's are actually geared slightly better than 1200's for big bore kits.

Sports Glides, they all kinda work you can do it to the Heritage too.
The best wheelie bike I've seen that don't have modified bags are the Low Riders though, less fairings and better steering rake.
I'd like to stunt out a Streetglide, or Ultra with the top case removed, the batwing fairing looks so good but not the new fairing.
All of the touring bikes are car priced bikes though, so I don't think about it too much

yeah expensive bicycles outside of competition boggle my mind. the whole deal with a bicycle is that it's so simple, so cheap, and so light it barely exists. it's supposed to be a near-transparent way to quintuple your walking speed. dockless bikeshares (despite being mildly evil) show this - they literally leave them lying around in cities with a bare minimum of anti-theft, and still turn a profit while just straight up eating the inevitable losses.

1 gallon of fuel is a hell of a lot of weight and even more rackspace for 40-ish miles of range. I'd pick whatever eats up the least amount of other gear that also lets you still cover the stretches you plan on riding.

There's no pressure for me to move out, I have a good relationship with my parents, and my current lifestyle is far more comfortable than it would be trying to scrape by each month to make rent on a shitty apartment shared with a half-dozen jeets. If that bird is Red with gold accents and has the updated headlight and not the old headlight then you very well might be looking at the fabled 50th Anniversary blackbird. Which featured numerous refinements and upgrades such as suspension and weight savings along side a small bit of extra power from a bored out 1200cc engine

Or its just a normal cool bird with gold on it, but if it's red you should check.

the guy literally locked his front up because thats all his brain had time to do

second, the speed you think you'd need to be doing to pass on the shoulder, youd hit the black car as its still in the lane

third, going right you hit the debris and other traffic

fourth, no bike, neck yourself.

How does one keep from violence in these situations? The uncle that turned me into a biker once had something similar happen to him. He got up, and came close to hospitalizing...the passenger of the offending car.
>I just saw him get out of the retard car, I had no idea he wasn't the driver. Even the driver that got side wiped into the ditch got a few kicks in.
He didn't get into too much trouble, but it was also the 90's. I don't think if I lose my shit I'd have the same luck.

my honest opinion is it's possible to flick fast enough to avoid that but I'd wager most riders aren't quick enough. not to mention you have to process what's happening and make a decision on whether you're braking or swerving...I think a certain percent of riders on a supersport could possibly avoid it but man that's a hard ask. most people will not get away unscathed in this situation. we're all just speculating anyway so...kinda worthless conjecture

i bought the 701 a few weeks back, finally did the first longer ride with it today, doing all the old roads i did years ago, before i sold my old bike.
i gotta say the 701 is GREAT, im so happy that i didnt buy a 959 or V2 panigale like i almost did.

its ridiculously easy to ride fast in the corners, suspension etc. gives tons of confidence.
had the rear tire down to the edge within a few mins of riding, and even when you slip a little due to those asphalt snakes it doesnt freak you out a bit. i had some serious fishtailing going on when accelerating out of a corner with a lot of them, but feels like nothing to worry about.

all in all just GREAT, i should have swallowed the supermoto pill a decade ago.

anyways, im already planning on buying a second bike as well, just gotta get rid of my second car first to make some space.

Has anybody noticed if humid affects how long the lube lasts on their chains?
It's been uncharacteristically humid lately and my chains are getting dry after like two rides. My buddy noticed the same thing on his bike.
The chains on our bikes have a good amount of miles on them but they are still in good shape.

I'd do what I did and use a (one-trip grade ONLY no fucking scrap!) shipping container then fit a cheap dehumidifier. It solves collector bike and partsstorage sweetly as you can park (non-baggers) one deep down the sides and ride in and out thanks to doors on both ends (never omit that).

A container as a controlled inside room in a factory or hangar is quite common in industry. My personal outdoor bike storage box has nil flammables and I can inert the whole can with one CO2 high pressure extinguisher of several from industrial auctions.

If you don't own the warehouse/shop but a container might serve better (they're far more dust-free than most rooms not to mention humidity and condensation). Accessories to move them are quite simple. A few hunks of large OD pipe make dandy rollers.

Because failure to recognize motorcycles are toys and that the cruiser world is also about folk art.

The first looked like someone waved a magic UJM wand over then and had gearbox issures. Later ones had some interesting styling but those looks failed to move enough product now the early 'oughts Harley famine.

The public voted Polaris off the island then of course liked semi-traditional Indian whose Scout is tidily done and performant.

Not great, not terrible. I thought it would be a bit more opressive honestly, but I ride the piss out of it and the oil changes are so quick it's hardly a bother. I did get the recluse clutch cover which expands the oil capacity noticably and increases the interval, but I still change it every 15 hours or so out of habbit. It's nice to have the option to take it past that if I wanted to, though, and I have for some multi day stuff. The rebuilds are what most people worry about, but unless you're literally racing these bikes then the intervals on those can easily be doubled or more

So i was drinking in the shop and wondering what I could do with some random parts.
Like....can I use 2 swingarms for rear suspension on a quad (?)
Then I just started thinking....what if I took 2 identical bikes, added a cradle in-between them with a seat and married/mirrored the controls to both bikes and basically built a quad with dual swingarms outback and each front wheel on their own forks and 2 functioning engines/gear boxes.
Maybe even make the center cradle a "clamp on" like a side car so the bikes aren't actually destroyed and could be separated when the project is shit or even split off to use during the day at glamis and then bolted together to ride over to comp hill at night and just hang out and drink....

You can of course mix and match similar models and paint as desired so if you snag a Dyna with a narrow glide you can install a wide glide in several hours then sell the leftovers online.

Fecesbook Marketplace took over from Craigslist but I still check it and even printed trader papers now and then. See also Fecesbook Dyna and other HD and parts for sale groups.

Mags sell for much more than spokes and won't get cheaper so if you get a Dyna with mags selling them is currently easy, Ebay being highest priced.

The Scout was kinda nice though.
My local POLARIS dealership burn3d me bad tho and I refuse to return.
It's always so demoralizing when you go to buy a motorcycle and the lot is full of boats and side by sides.
It means the motorcycles don't really matter at all for them when they can just sell a stupid fucking boat to some boomer...

The Z looks way better than the XSR but it costs more and doesn't have nearly as many tech features- for people who care about that shit. I see people compare them a lot but I think for people that are seriously considering buying one or the other you see pretty quickly they're not THAT similar. Z900RS has more in common with the Triumph modern classic lineup IMO. Triumph even went through the trouble of making fake carbs and I just have fake cooling fins like a poser.
