went out to the coastal cliffs to watch the sunset last night, had a good time
also tested out this new jacket I picked up off ebay, some old guy was selling his basically brand new fox creek leather jacket for like $300 or so, talked him down to $250
considering the original price is over $600 I figure I got a good deal, especially when I skipped the ridiculous $35 shipping fee by picking it up from him in person
very excellent jacket, heavy as fuck 1.6mm thick leather and has armor pockets too

Put 250 or so miles on the DR yesterday tooling around central NH and Vermont
Ideal weather, bike ran like a sewing machine, barely any traffic despite the Laconia rally
Vermont back roads truly are a gift from God directly to bikers, you won't regret any random turn you make
Love the DR, but I found myself wishing at times I was on an Africa Twin or something like that

TWO VRODS in my area went up for sale at the same time both priced just a little north of $2k for completely stock, garage kept, low mileage, examples.
I was stuck in New England for 2 days before I flew home. The night before I flew home one of them sold. Had plans to meet the other guy an hour after I landed. Got the text he sold it when I got service again well getting off the plane.

>Gotta be one of the more polarizing bikes Harley's ever made
I really don't understand why it was at the time. Maybe because it was the first real "modern" bike they ever made. I was a kid when they were new, so I never heard any of the stuff surrounding it. I often hear people say Harley guys didn't like it, but I also hear they call softails and Sportsters girl bikes and Dynas poser bikes, but those were Harleys best selling bikes over anything else for decades, so that would mean the majority of Harley guys are on bikes that Harley guys don't like? Just makes no sense. It had a good run and died with Dyna, so I feel like that's all manufacturered drama.
>what makes you want a V-Rod specifically?
My dad's friend had one when I was growing up. Got it when the model was still fresh and I thought it was cool. Now, I just sort of want a cruiser with some more oomph, and that has plenty. It's also one of those things where I can now get the things I wanted as a kid, and that's on the list. I've never been one for bombing down the highway too much, but I'd like the option. I've already got my daily rider, KLR, for taking to work or on trips and want something different and to get back to cruisers like I started on. I also think they look cool.

It’s EXTREMELY gay that these are CVT only, so for that alone I wouldn’t get one, and the other ones, the slingshot I think they’re called, I’d rather just buy a used Miata or other small sports car - and that’s what I did when I owned a sports car.

What's the most fun, efficient, and reliable mid-range ($12-8k new or sub-$5k used) bike on the market in the ADV or Cruiser Category?
I know we never talk about motorcycles in the 3rd world sense, as an extremely cheap form of transportation, but I'm sick of being more efficient riding to work in my cage, 07 Prius, than my bike, 99 Shadow Ace. I want to ride to work on bike can get more out of it than getting to ride. It's not like the commute is particularly fun anyway.
I just want a bike that beats (even just barely) my Prius's 53mpg avg for my 70 city/30 highway commute. I'm obviously not interested in a Grom or something like that, but a proper bike at least above 500cc that's comfortable to ride and fun for my days off.

Year, make and model? ALWAYS use that to refer to machinery when troubleshooting because not every brake system is the same any more.

You can bleed at any fitting including banjo bolts so I place a plastic trash bag on the bike to protect it then an absorbent towel (terrycloth bath towels work well being cotton) to catch the drool. Then I bleed as normal.

Air rises when parked so brake often firm up overnight.

They can go much bigger than 1200cc. I snagged a 89" S&S stroker 1997 for $1700 needing cosmetic cleanup but mechanically fine. Hammer bore kits are less expensive and often go 88".

My uncle had a yamaha rx135, in 90s, as a thirdie that was "the bike" to have. He had it for a long time and then just gave it away around somewhere when I was in college. I never learnt to ride a bike by then although I could ride scoots, I have a bigger and more powerful bike, but still salty about not being able to experience the 2 smoke. Those bikes have shot up in value like anything and as usual, its modded and riced up by the typical "youth" and yamaha enthusiasts, the boi racers. I'm saltyyyyyyy about not having ridden it.

Especially since old HDs are so easy to get running. The frame stretch to clear what's basically a big twin stroke using S&S big twin jugs was properly done. Between that and the internal case machining that Sporty was a labor of lust and shall live on.

All it needed was most of a starter (quickly pillaged from my starter collection, most Evo big twin and Evo Sporty starter parts swap so I collect removed starters for free or cheap then replace the usual contacts with new, generic is fine) and an overnight Pine-Sol (not generic pine oil) carb soak. (I also change intake manifold seals when disturbing old installed HD carbs).

Anybody here ride a transalp? I'm looking to get a larger bike for 80% high speed freeway, 20% washed out county dirt roads. Dual sport doesn't cut it for the distances and speeds here, and I don't have space for a trailer.

Will a skid plate, low and high crash bars, and bark busters keep me from breaking the front fairing to pieces if and when I skid out on dirt? I don't care if I have to replace turn signals or scratch up the windshield/fairings, but I'd like to avoid outright snapping shit in 2.

How top heavy is the bike? Occasionally I'll have to hop off and push a bike between very narrow shit like a fence post and a concrete barrier, sometimes up or down hill, and 450lbs if it's high up sounds like a nightmare.

Chinook is more of a scenic byway, snoqualmie is for getting places. It can get you where you need to go faster if you're south of seattle sometimes, but snoqualmie being a much wider and faster freeway means it's much less fun of a ride. Chinook is just a really windy trip up basalt cliffs and some truly awesome views
>White
White is a lot more gradual and doesn't go as high. It's more of a "get you where you need to go" kind of ride but is still a lot more scenic than snoqualmie. Chinook is just the coolest of the three IMO. You can take another really cool highway, the 123, between white pass and chinook

Visit a forum focusing on Twin Cams (and learn to post the year and model because they matter.)

Learn ALL the common project bike fuckups by asking (also in a forum since /dbt/ threads vanish in days at best) what to look for on that specific bike before choosing to buy.

Download and read factory service manuals and factory parts catalogs because spcific tech data is you friend. I suggest beginning with a carbed Twin Cam for easy tuning and if desired a simpler wiring harness.

Never go shopping hungry and never buy anything without a clear title.
