Something to tour on thats simple, no/little amount of computers on board. Something I can fix on the side of the road and limp home to the next town if parts are required. I know I'm looking for something like a DR650 or KLR650 but people are asking stupid money for a clapped out 20 year old bike. Just need to wait for a bargain to pop up or one with an issue I can fix.

The only place telling you helmets expire is the place that also happens to sell you new helmets. Couldn't sell you a new helmet unless you crashed, so they came up with a lie to get you to throw away your perfectly good helmet.
The only independent study done showed age had next to no affect on helmet materials.

Tires expire, studies have been done and you can see dryrot. There's no rubber in your helmet, and eps foam doesn't have any meaningful shelf life in any other product besides helmets. Foam cups? 50+ years before they have any meaningful degredation.
Coolers? My cooler from the 80s still keeps beer cold. But helmets protected by a shell? Danger will robinson!!

The duality of man
>really really really want a modern high performing (fuel injected, liquid cooled, 16 valve etc) 4 cylinder bike with no fairings (like CB650R, Z900 etc) because autism
>but I'm getting old and they're all very sporty compared to my current bike, which itself I want it to be more comfortable (and have added handlebar risers and would definitely buy footpeg lowering/forwarding kit if I could find it)
How do I cope? Does anyone know a 4 cylinder bike that has good aftermarket support in the ergonomic department? I am willing to go with the chinesium highway pegs that mount to engine guards if that's all there is
Why would I get a DR-650 when a Drz-400 exists? Seems the Drz just mogs the 650 in every way. But am I missing something?

The 650 is just an agricultural workhorse, they've been around forever and are bullet proof, being air cooled single cam with lock nut cam adjusters not shims, lends itself to low maintenance and that's why people buy them. They are the two wheeled Hilux. The 400 is an enduro/sm for the road

DAS now booked after time served as a 125nigger. I'm set on the idea of a reliable, somewhat sensible, tourable old meme bike as the first big one. I'm on a budget but I am not a wrenchlet. The pattern/theme is not a coincidence.
My list is:
VFR800Fi
XJ900S Diversion (kinda boring)
RR1100RS
Thoughts/judgement/abuse/alternatives?
I am once again asking what is the point of a powerful naked bike
>cringe anime gundam styling on 99% of them (even in shitalian examples)
>wind
>aftermarket windscreens look gay and don't even help
>can't tuck in without uncomfortably sticking your elbows out like a retard
>can't hang off in a turn properly
>compromised rider weight distribution
>"oh but at least I don't have to lean forward slightly ugh i'm such a fat old fart"
And this is all you'll be able to buy in 5 years
Cross shopping a new nightster and a 2024 v7, I have test rides booked. I know a few people here have the guzzi, and there are some Harley bros, any commentary on these two? I’m buying for a weekend / looker bike, I’ve got a practical motorcycle already for commuting and grocery runs etc

I've never found myself wanting one. You get the chug-lugs if you shift into 5th below 60, and the bike tops out at 90-100mph anyway, so anywhere up there, just put it in 5th. I sometimes get nervous downshifting into 4th to overtake a semi or whatever on the freeway, so maybe a 6th gear would solve that, but this is splitting hairs.

It's dirt bike spec. I don't really know what sumo wheels are but I know they're different from dirt bike wheels. Are they just wire wheels that will take a tubeless tire?
So my sister wants to start riding randomly out of nowhere, and I'm not really sure how to guide her. She's 37, and I guess this bug just hit her. She already made her husband stop riding 7 years ago when she got pregnant with their first kid. Her husband was never a very good rider (honestly good she probably made him stop), and my dad is retired RVing around the country with my mom, so I'm left to teach her.
I know it sounds simple. Get her a starter bike and work on fundamentals, however, my sister has money and doesn't want a beat to shit 90s rebel 250 like I started on.
I guess my question is, what are the best starter bikes now? Spoiled for choice in the modern market, and that's the problem.
Some stats on her:
>5' 8"
>31" inseam
>135lbs
>small rides (for now)
>no previous experience or ride style preference
>$170k combined income with her husband (she makes more)
Nothing would really be a problem outside of really tall ADVs, which she wouldn't start on anyway. What does everyone recommend these days.
>>28570766
Well first question is what kind of bike does she want? 31" inseam definitely opens up her options. If it's sport bikes, obviously ninja 400 or 500 or cbr500. If it's cruiser, I can't help really you.

Do you already have a date picked out?
>>28570769
Probably not sport bikes. Easy recommendations there for sure. I guess there are just so many nakeds, standards, cruisers, and more in the intro range, what's really the best? Obviously Honda rebels (both 300 and 500 versions) are great, but now they also have the SLC series. Triumph seems to be selling a lot of those Speed and Scrambler 400s (at least I see a lot on the road). The smaller MT series bikes, and the Kawi eliminator are growing in popularity. Even those extra cheap Royal Poofield bikes come with a 3 year warranty, long enough for her not to worry, and cheap enough for her not worry about dropping it. Hell, now even the Bar and Shield will have something cheap coming soon, and she loves how street bobs look, but she doesn't think she's ready (and she's not).
Seems to be wanting to work towards a Bonneville T100 or HD Street Bob, what she likes the looks of the most. Also, 2 bikes my dad and I have had in the past.

I'm a die hard sport bike guy, so I can't really offer any specific suggestions. Generally if somebody doesn't know what they want in the beginning, they get a used naked or a standard and then figure out what they like from there. If she's unsure, definitely do not buy new. Even if she makes good money, it's a waste. Buy something lightly used and already serviced.
I'm diehard on sport bikes but I can definitely see myself owning a z900rs someday. That bike looks so cool and it's a 4cyl so it sounds good.

17" wheels in sportbike widths, and a larger front brake setup to match. A 250 could get away with a 4.5" or so rear, a 450 really needs a 5" rear with a 160 width tire. You can run tubed or tubeless.

Yeah man. I think just being more road oriented which is the majority of my riding but still having the capability to go and explore as it is the same frame as the himalayan; and I'm a sucker for the looks without it being full heavy ADV.
I do feel embarrassed sometimes in traffic with fast sport bikes around because she is pretty gutless but you know, none of those sport bikes are ever cruising down gravel roads.
>we need MORE ELECTRONIC RIDER AIDS IN MOTOGP!
lmao why are racist so fucking pathetic?
just build a bike that rides itself at this point and then we just bet on the manufacturers and pure luck.
stupid ass faggots, and the wonder why nobody watches it anymore
>oh look how cool, the bike turns itself and restricts throttle itself, and brakes itself, oh man thats so cool
>i wish i could ride like this bike whoah its so nice
honestly i wanna strangle them and murder them for what they are doing to the sport
we need a fucking paradigm shift and a few beheaded race-whoeverthefucks who are in charge of those stupid ass rules
seriously fucking get fucked
i honestly think some faggots in brussels are behind it anyways
>yes make all this electronic shit mandatory in motoGP so we can force more manufacturers to make it mandatory in normal bikes so people stop riding all together because thats the goal, as you know
makes me so fucking mad as fuck
pic completely unrelated, its a motorcycle not a computer on wheels that rides itself, go fuck yourself

General repair question here. I recently pulled into a gravel driveway cuz i lost my gps signal and when i was pulling out, the real wheel slipped from under me and i dropped the bike on its left side. No big deal overall but it fell on the left handlebar and my clutch lever broke in half as well as some scuff marks on the side of the handle.
Can the handle and the lever be replaced so it looks cute/new again?

Thats not a general repair question
Thats a statement where you answer your own question intermittently by philosophy of the cute twink metaphysics of your levers
Of course you can, get adjustable foldy amazon shitters that have the cigarette holder hole on the far end, also if you find the base hardware that attached to the lines themselves; any future incident where the levera snap you can eqsily swap out even if theyre from another bike but have the same fittings
I did that for my vfr800, took a pair off buddy who had a cbr1000rr and he kept denying it was gonna work
Cant believe wrenchlets exist in the realm of levers, not you anon, youre a cute twink apparently, post some feet pics for fz6 to get jellymad and thirsttrap all the fucking homos with a lever inside your sphincter
Trust me on this

This is how I dropped a bike for the first time too. I actually gave it gas intentionally because I thought I was gonna do a sick powerslide, imagine my disappointment. You can replace the clutch lever with basically any generic lever, will probably cost about $30 and 30min of work to do it yourself. Unless the handlebar is bent I would just leave it be. Sanding/buffing it and then trying to repaint or finish it would cross my mind, but I would probably just fuck it up even more.

I Guess with all the desert and gravel roads you have there i think a scambler or an enduro Is where you unlock real fun.
But you don't exactly have a lot of space under the engine and suspension travel, right? Is It something that Is a bit worriesome at time or It matters only if you do some real off-road with big rocks and jumps/very uneven roads? I have some Dreams of scramblering the guerrilla but doing wheels and suspensions work might be problematic in no-fun Land europe but the bear would be a big compromise to do something that i barely have the chance to experience and It didn't look that taller either

However, the last time I took them on a trip I ended up taking them off because it was so incredibly hot, and chaps don't breathe. I can't really recommend them, but they are better than nothing.

Current-gen KLRs are still dead simple and quite cheap. IMO the chance of the ECU fucking up is vastly lower than the chance of trouble with the carb on the older models. My local dealer has a few '23s still sitting around with huge discounts, pretty much cheaper than anything used in good shape, and I'd bet the same is true of a lot of dealers.

KTM/HQV 390/401 are great for beginners and are able to go past cars if you rev them up with no big issue, but I would get one of those used due of the retarded tariffs, besides not only you can get them for somewhat cheap, you can also sell them rather quick when getting a bigger one.
Otherwise it would be to get a dual sport, or get her a Honda XR190L, that one is not too tall and you can modify the seat rather easily if she really needs to lower it down, but for her size, she should be more than fine.
Ideally is for her to get something that actually has more safety features like full ABS and TC since those help a lot correcting rookie mistakes, then its up to her if she wants to turn them off.
Rookies should definitely avoid cruisers and sport bikes as the first bike since the position for the rider is not so comfortable and need more precision, and of course don't buy her a Janus, that only brings more problems than a rookie already has, since you inherit all the problems of old bike designs.
And well, if she's into Yamaha, then MT-03 is a bike you can't go wrong with.

csmnl.com
Its what my honda mechanic recommended to me, based dutch bros. If you consider the 89Transalp, just put your cdi on their side (soldering on the boards might have been damaged from pressure of the seat, or change them out for new didgital ones and order a spare regulator, in case the alternator fries the old one on a hot day. Then off you go. Its not an XRV750 where your trip computer is bricked and your fuel pump welds itself together (brcause the Transalp has neither of these things)

I think knowing and riding within the limitations it's fine. Soaked up potholes and washouts without a worry but I'm not going to tackle some things I might have on my DRZ.
Hope you achieve those dreams anon, exploring is fun.

Wild to me that brands will electronically limit certain bikes on power through the throttle mapping. This engine is the same as the almost 110hp 900gs and a $400 ecu flash+filter makes them the same output.

Insurance is a plus point but I'm 6'4" and want something comfy for potential long tours that can carry stuff without complaining. I'll sit on a couple but it seems like the VFR is closer to what I need comfort/size but I am expecting to relocate the pegs. Re seized stuff, I'll probably be looking at replacing/servicing brakes and suspension and entertaining the idea of a top-end rebuild...but yeah, actually riding straight away would be better. Budgeting about £2750 max (would want an example not needing so much doing at that price). Reasonable?

Very gay place to take it, does smoking pot cause you brutal gay sex intrusive thoughts that you then project onto people who see you for what you are? A dirty hippy no better than a shitskin. A spiritual shitskin. The devil has his cock far up your ass when you puff that. May he cum hard and kill you while your ride. I wish this to happen with all my being please God mangle this stoner faggot badly.

I haven't smoked weed in years but that doesn't mean I can't still get a laugh at you being a schizo about it. Maybe ask your doctor for a prescription Anon, you sound like you could use some help relaxing.
