This chart is just one of those things. Everyone gets paid annual leave, everywhere, in America. Random grocery store cashiers and shelf stockers and wal mart and gas station attendants get 1-2 weeks paid vacation time every year, plus typically a separate apportionment of paid sick leave. The federal government doesn’t mandate it, but the federal government doesn’t have to. It’s industry standard practice everywhere.

Jesus didn't need time off. He was fully focused on his productive outputs. No wine at the wedding? 6 jars of the finest Galilean grape juice was created in record time. Need something to go with that and you only have 5 loaves and 2 fish? Not a problem, get everyone in groups of 50 and watch the man cook. Tirelessly. I quit full-time and worked part-time when I was 28, and again when I was 33, in order to spend time with my kids. The first time was when my first kid was a baby, the second time was after divorce and I felt like I wasn't being a present father. The second time was awesome. I was spending a bunch of time with the kids during the day at my new place and dating all these milfs and late-20s broads looking to have kids. Ended up marrying one and going back to work. You need to have a chunk of money saved to do that though. I sold my business and was able to pay for child support, new house, and coast for nearly two years working very little in my 30s. I worked like a little bitch for most of my life and having that time was refreshing.

Currently on the path to saving up a whole years wages.
If only inflation wasn't fucking me over I could actually reasonably do this.
If during the 2 year break I decide to do some side hustle setting up local networks/servers for money I could extend it to 4 years easy.

here companies cant even fire you if you have less than 30 days of PAYED sick leave a year. So together with 30 days of normal payed leave you can essentially take 60 days off. Even if you have more than 30 they need several years + probably a court case to get rid of you.

She was a housewife. Old housewives ramp up the life expectancy statistics. Just because you're alive doesn't mean you're productive or enthusiastic. She is still somewhat mobile, but if I live to be 98, I'll probably get disabled by the time I'm 65. They don't make humans like they used to.

Somehow the union hes apart of voted to keep people hired before a certain date at the higher pay rate and allow the company to lower it for those hired after 2002, so boomers that work there are receiving like 10-12 dollars an hour more for the same work while also being lazy af and leaving the work in the hands of the younger employees. Despite all this my dad is calling me every two weeks because he needs money to not overdraft and has never saved a dime

Boomers should be lined up and shot. No young love => no work. It's that simple. They inherited the most prosperous societies in human history and fucked them up, then tried to take the lazy way out by demographically replacing the younger generation so they don't have to fix the mess they created. They have no right to complain about work ethic when their "solution" to the societal-scale problems they have created is to just replace everyone with people who are accustomed to literal slavery and thus have no standards. Lazy worthless fucks. No boomer gets to lecture anyone on work ethic until they actually fix the mess they created instead of trying to sweep it under the rug with replacement migration.

Not in most places. Though even in the places that give you separate “sick leave” it really doesn’t matter, paid time off is paid time off. If you don’t get sick all year, what do you do? You tell your boss “I’m taking off this coming Fri-Sun, put it down as sick time”. It works like vacation time.

If you’re gonna use your sick time like vacation time (and everyone does) why not just roll them together and cut out the headache?

Farming for subsistence is less work than most modern full-time jobs when you calculate the hours, it’s generally recognized that medieval peasants worked fewer annual hours than modern people and that was WITH half their crop being taken to feed the feudal lord and WITHOUT the advent of labor saving technology.

More people could do subsistence farming today to survive (or at least supplement their income and reduce their total workload) but access to usable land for homesteading is prohibitively expensive. Read some Ralph Borsodi on this, it’s actually really interesting, we could markedly improve our lives if we collectively rediscovered “producing for our own consumption” at least in some small measure. I mean, just for a microcosm of this obvious fact, look at the rising number of people who are utterly incapable of cooking their own meals. They never learned the skill, and look at how much disposable income they flush away on Uber Eats as a result. It’s a borderline epidemic. So much of modern consumerist society is some version of
>Uber Eats 3 times a day because I never learned to cook
Your clothes, your food, your shelter, you depend on your wage for the basics of survival and it means you lose enormous leverage.

I'm not an expert on vacation habits in other countries but I'd assume that the UK getting 28 days of annual leave does not imply it's common for workers to take 4 consecutive weeks off in a row all at once. It's total time. 2 weeks is common in the US but that's as a total amount of paid annual leave, it's usually taken either as single weeks or shorter (e.g. 2 days paid leave appended to 2 days off to create a 4-day weekend).
