Does seem like Ukraine reinforced the Lyman direction and the area around and in Dachne based on unit movements so hopefully they can reinforce Pokrovsk with more deepstrike capacity. They need to degrade the supply depos to a greater degree (strikes on Dontensk city depos in the last week are food but they need to scale it up). Lyman direction though seems to be be benefitting from the fact that all the Ukrainian forces in the area have switched to the new Corps system - might be hard to do such a quick switch over in a hotter part of the front

Corps system - allowing Ukraine to actively counterattack in the Lyman and Sumy directions in the last week. No difference in number or quantity of supplies and troops but means that localised units actually talk to one another and fight with common objectives - rather than the old system of just allowing the weaker units to panic whilst the stronger units in the same area have to compensate for them but can’t give them orders.

Cause the previous system was shite. Stronger units like the 47th had to constantly run around compensating for weaker units like the 155th (ukrainisn one not the far more shite 155th russia naval infantry that’s all dead in Sumy right now) but they weren’t allowed to give their weaker counterparts orders since they had to run everything up the chain of command. Corps system means all the localised units in an area work together and crucially are able to communicate with one another in the field rather than through some ex-soviet taught general thus allowing the same number of forces to be much stronger at a tactical level. Thing is though is that the Ukrainian army is currently in the transistion phase - so while some fronts are using the corps system its not yet universal but where jt is present it shows clear results

Unfortunate that Soviet-esque thinking is still prevalent even now in the General Staff and Officer Corps. Better late than never but Ukaine needs to be careful and diligent in the transition phase.
I still cringe at the Ocheretyne fuckup because of the lack of communication between units.

That why the AFU has to ensure the Corps system isn’t just in place in areas where Russia’s already weaken enough for the process to be relatively simple like in Sumy. Great and all if the easier parts of the front see more Ukrainian tactical successes but the new system would be most effective if the troops in the hottest regions were under the Corps system too.
You are defo right that this should have been done fsr earlier but at least unlike the Russian the AFU’s general staff finally fucking realised this year that you can’t just rely on the same 10 hardened brigades to defeat the Ziggers on their own. I’m just praying that NATO generals in europe esp realise that they need to make sure their units can function properly in an all out war at a tactical level from the start given their access to all the data coming out of Ukraine and Russia.

Trump seems to have very clearly given up on making up with Russia - pretty sure he feels like he has enough domestic and foreign wins in his own eyes (only ones that matter to him) to care about attempting a reverse Nixon policy with Russia anymore and that’s why he’s suddenly become more openly pro-ukrainian since the NATO summit

Anders Puck Nielsen says in his latest video that a major concern right now is the United States’ sudden halt in weapons deliveries to Ukraine. He points out the confusion surrounding U.S. policy—while Donald Trump has recently used more pro-Ukraine and anti-Russia rhetoric, the Pentagon has paused crucial arms shipments, citing the need to assess the impact on U.S. military readiness. Nielsen dismisses this as “total BS,” explaining that the U.S. is not giving Ukraine more than it can produce or replace.

He emphasizes that the decision to stop arms deliveries is entirely political, and the weapons being withheld include critical air defense systems needed to counter intensified Russian attacks.

Nielsen goes on to say that this kind of mixed messaging—saying the U.S. supports Ukraine while doing the opposite—is exactly the kind of tactic someone trying to help Russia would use. He stresses that he’s not claiming this is Trump’s intention, but if Trump did want to aid Putin’s summer offensive, this is precisely what it would look like: stalling military aid while pacifying allies with promises of future support.

He ends with a warning that European politicians must stay alert and not be lulled into inaction by the U.S.’s unclear signals.

> Even though Trump has since said that weapons deliveries to Ukraine will resume, Anders Puck Nielsen’s core message in the video still holds true—unless those weapons actually arrive in Ukraine, the political signaling is meaningles

I think he's finally woken up. The phone call on independence day went down like a lead balloon.
Besides, Trump has realised he's talking to a weak man. Putin didn't lift so much as a finger to help Iran whilst Israel was bombing them for a week - well before the US had joined in. Russia is cornered and isn't in a strong position.

Graham and co. seem to have given Trump the right to wave oil and gas secondary sanctions on any country he wants twice for 180 days each once the bill passes seemingly as a way to let Trump exempt nations he doesn’t want caught in the fire - given the Republicans love Orban they’ll give Hungary a free pass and Trump will likely give Slovakia a free pass too cause Fico did agree to Trump’s 5% NATO gdp on defence target. Same with the EU 18th sanctions package - Slovakia is likely going to win concession from the rest of the EU as the price of passing it. Seems like they want Brussels to cap their gas prices for the next few years if they have trouble accessing Russian supplies (potenially worth billions) and EU legal aid to fight Gazprom when they’re forced to break contracts. Ngl Fico might be a piece of shit, but he’s a incredibly crafty piece of shit who actually gets valuable concessions cause he has realistic goals. Meanwhile Orban just blocks to be a troll and whenever Slovakia approves a package he’s always forced to comply or risk being singled out cause Fico very clearly does not care about helping Hungary in the slightest. As long as he has his cash from Brussels he’s happy

Gonna be critical to see the outcome of the Kellogg-Zelensky meeting in Rome either this Thursday or Friday (no exact public time another than URC conference on the 10th-11th in Rome). From what’s come out clear that since the latest Trump-Zelensky talk the URC bilateral talks have been shifted towards being forced around weapon deliveries. If something new gets announced (not restarting Biden era aid) then that’ll be pretty clear proof that Trump’s fully pivoted towards Ukraine. Highly unlikely Trump will agree to more free aid but if he agrees for a debt/respurces for militsry aid sale to Ukraine as Zelensky’s been suggesting for months that’ll help alot.

Tbh given how quickly the Corps system was rolled out in Lyman which is a medium-hot section of the front without making a land-for-time tradeoff the AFU likely can do so everywhere except around Pokrovsk. There who know what they’ll have to do - be better to transfer a newly established Corps level unit to the area and use that as a skeleton to attach the currently engaged Brigades but there won’t be any easy choice in that section. Still has to be done cause afterwards the improvements to fighting capacity far outweigh doing nothing

Its shocking how many trannies get one-shot by this.

were you aware your entire worldview is based on an intentional sampling bias?

That’s not free aid like with Biden. Mineral fund will probably be the device used if hopefully more aid is approved but by definition it involves Ukraine giving up resources for aid so isn’t free. Compare that to new euro aid - no charges on Ukraine in the future. Fair enough though cause we live next door to the fucking Ziggers - Yanks have an ocean on one side, Canada to the North and the literal wasteland that is Alaska so they can afford to charge for future aid

Yeah at the end of day militsry aid is aid. If they have to pay back the favour so be it. We paid back the debt America lent us in financial support and military aid/1940s era land lense for WW1 and WW2 for decades as we should have (iirc the last British WW1 debt was paid off in the 2010s). Trump is not capable of providing terms that Russians can accept.

This is evident by the fact all of our supposed allies (including you), are actively sabotaging Trump's peace efforts.

Why do you think its important for an illegitimate puppet leader to agree to something Trump says or not?

the opposite happens.

Trump said he threatened to bomb Moscow if Putin attacked Ukraine, 2024 fundraiser tapes show

1/?

Donald Trump told a private gathering of donors last year that he once sought to deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from attacking Ukraine by threatening to “bomb the sh*t out of Moscow” in retaliation, according to audio provided to CNN.

“With Putin I said, ‘If you go into Ukraine, I’m going to bomb the sh*t out of Moscow. I’m telling you I have no choice,’” Trump said during one 2024 fundraiser, according to the audio. “And then [Putin] goes, like, ‘I don’t believe you.’ But he believed me 10%.”

Trump later claimed he relayed a similar warning to Chinese President Xi Jinping over a potential invasion of Taiwan, telling him that the US would bomb Beijing in response.

“He thought I was crazy,” Trump said of Xi, before noting that “we never had a problem.”

The remarks, which came as Trump made his case for a second term, were among those captured in a series of audio tapes of 2024 fundraisers in New York and Florida, which were later obtained by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf, who detailed some of the exchanges in their new book, “2024.” The audio has not previously been aired. The Trump campaign declined to comment on the content of the tapes.

The audio shows a more unleashed side of Trump that he was willing to reveal behind closed doors to appeal to wealthy donors – when he talked about not only his at-times aggressive foreign policy strategy, but also deporting student protestors and his opinion that “the welfare people” will always vote for Democrats.

Trump referenced his conversations with Putin and Xi while arguing that he would have staved off conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza if he were president instead of Joe Biden – a claim he’s continued to repeat as he now struggles to end both wars.

On Tuesday, Trump again expressed frustration with Putin’s resistance to a peace deal, complaining that the Russian leader was throwing “a lot of bullsh*t” at the U.S.

“I’m not happy with Putin,” he said during a Cabinet meeting. “I’m very unhappy with them.”

During one fundraiser, Trump boasted about pressuring wealthy allies to donate tens of millions of dollars to his campaign. At another, he previewed his administration’s efforts to deport student protesters in addition to recounting his exchanges with foreign leaders.

“One thing I’d do is any student that protests, I would throw them out of the country,” Trump said at a second closed-door fundraiser, vowing to crack down on pro-Palestinian demonstrations on college campuses. “Those people made a big mistake. Throw them out of the country, and I think that will stop it.”

After one donor voiced concern that some of the student protesters would eventually be “running this country,” Trump pressed the audience to “really be generous” in helping him get elected.

“If you get me elected, we will set that movement back 25 to 30 years,” he said.

Trump has sought to follow through on that pledge since taking office, sparking a series of running legal showdowns between the White House and the judiciary over the scope of the administration’s mass deportation drive – including against students who hold visas that the administration has sought to revoke.

At another fundraiser, Trump pressed attendees to give more to his campaign by asserting that Republicans were at a disadvantage because “the welfare people will always vote for Democrats.”

“The unions give big money, the civil service stuff gives big money, and they have the advantage of welfare,” he said. “The one thing that I have to say to my Jewish friends: You’ve got to get them to start voting Republican.”

During that event, Trump also bragged about convincing one wealthy donor who had offered a $1 million donation in exchange for lunch with him to instead increase the amount to $25 million.

“And he did it, he gave me $25 million,” Trump said. “It’s crazy.”

The then-GOP presidential nominee claimed he had similarly succeeded in getting others to donate far more than they originally planned.

“You have to have the courage to ask,” he said. “You have to get them into the mindset.”

If that’s the case why is your central bank warning if a reccession repeatedly. We know Russia’s spending 40% of the annual state budget on the doomed war effort so military spending is holding strong. Only reason they’d been warning of a reccession therefore has to be to do with the civilian economy. Being able to sustitute goods isn’t the same as ensuring the price remains the same (which based on current Russian official and privately researched dtabshows that things aren’t great). Ivan do you think you know more about the real state of the Russian economy than’s the Russian central bank itself.

It's unironically over. Russia's solutions to structural deficits has always been gray debt. It's a situation of damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Keep this going long enough and you'll have runaway inflation, meaning interest rate hikes, meaning an even greater cost of borrowing. Stop suddenly and all the debt-laden businesses propping up the war go bust and have to repay billions that they don't have.
One solution is to seize oligarch companies but that's political suicide, or further sell mineral/oil rights to chinks which ensures long-term suffering. Although this is very brief and there's much better analysis than what I can do, so have a read.

Given that Russian fuck ups have pushed Armenia and Azerbaijan - two nations who’s objective and been to kill the other - towards signing a peace agreement it would be incredibly funny if they both ended up joining NATO. Especially if former CSTO founding member Armenia was hosting a NATO base. Defo a bit if stretch right now but 20 years ago if someone suggested that Sweden (a nation that funded the Vietcong against the US) and Finland (a nation who ruling governments at least that believed that Russia was reformed enough post-cold war to not be a threat) would eventually join NATO they’d be laughed at and look at where we are now. Ukraine Says it Detained Man, 22, for Spying on Troops for Russia

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has detained a 22-year-old man in Kharkiv on suspicion of passing military intelligence to Russia, the agency said on Wednesday.
The suspect, an employee of an agricultural company, allegedly provided Russian forces with the locations of Ukrainian military positions in the Izyum sector of the Kharkiv region. This information was intended to be used for planning artillery strikes and ground assaults, the SBU stated.
According to investigators, the man was recruited through a Telegram channel that offered financial compensation. He was tasked with verifying specific coordinates and reporting back on Ukrainian troop movements and bases. Authorities said the suspect used his work-related travel as a cover to gather intelligence, marking the locations on Google Maps and sending the data to a Russian handler via an anonymous messenger chat.
"SBU counterintelligence detained the suspect at his residence in the regional center," said Vladyslav Abdula, a spokesman for the SBU's Kharkiv regional office. A mobile phone containing evidence of his collaboration was seized during the search.
The man is being held in custody on charges of unauthorized dissemination of military information. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of up to eight years. The SBU confirmed that the pre-trial investigation is complete and the case has been sent to court.

White House Weighs Giving Ukraine Another Patriot Air-Defense System

The move would mark the first time Trump has approved providing a major weapons system to Kyiv beyond the number authorized by the Biden White House

1/?

WASHINGTON—President Trump is considering sending an additional Patriot air-defense system to Ukraine after vowing in recent days to strengthen Kyiv against Russian attacks, according to two officials.
Trump lashed out at Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, saying “we get a lot of bulls—t thrown at us by Putin.” But the administration hasn’t disclosed what additional weapons it is planning to provide Ukraine in response to Putin’s rebuff of Trump’s calls to halt the three-year-old conflict.
Sending another Patriot would be a significant step for the White House, marking the first time Trump has approved providing a major weapons system to Kyiv beyond the number authorized by the Biden White House.
The White House has asked the Pentagon for options for sending Ukraine additional weapons, including a Patriot system, one of the officials said. Officials are also exploring if other countries can provide more Patriots to Kyiv, the official said.
The deliberations about providing additional defensive weapons are another twist in a back-and-forth series of moves by the administration over military aid to Kyiv in recent weeks. Trump came into office skeptical of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and had a fiery Oval Office meeting with him in February, while saying he believed Putin would “keep his word” on negotiations to end the war.
Ukraine currently has only a handful of Patriot systems, donated by the U.S. and other countries, and has been seeking more to fend off escalating Russian attacks. Each Patriot consists of two or sometimes three launchers, a radar, a command and control element and interceptor missiles.

The U.S.-made systems are in high demand worldwide and were used to defend Al Udeid air base from an Iranian missile barrage last month. The Army could come up with one for Ukraine, if ordered, according to one of the officials.
There are questions about how many interceptors the U.S. and its partners would be willing to contribute, however. The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East have strained supplies, sending the U.S. scrambling to replenish its stockpile.
The U.S. has provided Kyiv with three Patriot systems, Germany sent another three, and a consortium of European countries sent one, according to a former Pentagon official, but not all are up and running at the same time due to maintenance issues.
Trump told reporters at White House meeting Tuesday with his cabinet that Putin can be “very nice,” but what he says and does “turns out to be meaningless.”
Administration officials said last week that the Pentagon had halted an arms shipment for Ukraine that included antimissile interceptors fired by the Patriot system. It also included AIM-120 antiaircraft missiles, howitzer rounds, AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, GMLRS missiles to arm Himars rocket launchers, Stinger surface-to-air missiles, and grenade launchers.
Trump said Monday the U.S. would resume providing arms. When asked who in the administration initially paused the shipment, Trump said he didn’t know.
He added that he was looking into a bill that would place sanctions or tariffs on countries that assist Russia’s invasion, a measure led by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R, S.C.), a close Trump ally, and backed by more than 80 senators.
However, a person familiar with Trump’s thinking said the bill currently doesn’t provide Trump with enough flexibility, adding the White House is working with lawmakers to ensure the legislation furthers his efforts to end the war.

Trump has voiced more concern about Ukraine’s defensive needs in recent weeks as it faces an onslaught of Russian missile and drone attacks. He has also praised Ukrainian troops for their fight against the Russian invasion. “The Ukrainians, whether you think it is unfair that we gave all that money or not, they were very brave,” he said.
Last Thursday, Trump urged Putin to end the war during an hour-long call, only for Putin to reject the overture. Trump told reporters he wasn’t happy with the conversation and was disappointed in his Russian counterpart. A call the next day with Zelensky went better after Trump explained he didn’t order the pause in some weapons shipments to Kyiv, which had caught some parts of the U.S. government off-guard.
Now Trump is poised to send more weapons to Ukraine, telling reporters Monday that Ukraine must have the capabilities to defend itself. “Defensive weapons, primarily, but they are getting hit very, very hard. So many people are dying in that mess,” Trump said.
There are also indications Trump will support ramping up economic pressure on Russia as its wartime economy buckles under the weight of international sanctions.
“Putin sees no reason to stop the war, because the U.S. hasn’t taken action to force him to change his calculus. The only way to do that is to impose tough costs, economic and military, on Russia,” said Alina Polyakova, president and CEO of the Center for European Policy Analysis in Washington.

Russia Says It Thwarted a Major Ukrainian Drone Attack, Downing 86 Drones Nationwide

Russia's military said it destroyed 86 Ukrainian drones over nine regions in a widespread overnight attack, with several intercepted on their approach to Moscow.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that air defenses in the capital region shot down four drones. He initially reported two downed drones in separate messages on the Telegram app early Wednesday morning. Explosions were heard by residents in Zelenograd, a district of Moscow, according to the Astra press channel, which published video of the incident.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced the large-scale interception, detailing that 23 drones were downed over the Kursk region, 16 over Bryansk, 15 over Tula, 12 each over Belgorod and Oryol, and four in the Moscow region, among others.
The attack prompted temporary flight restrictions at Moscow's Sheremetyevo and Kaluga airports. At Sheremetyevo, a "Kover" (Carpet) plan, which signals that the airspace is closed due to an unauthorized aircraft or other threat, was enacted at 2:48 AM and lifted by 3:15 AM. Emergency services were dispatched to the sites where debris fell, though no significant damage or casualties were immediately reported in the Moscow area.

Russia Says It Killed Man Plotting to Bomb Railway Bridge

Russia’s top security agency said on Wednesday that its forces had killed a Russian citizen who was allegedly planning to bomb a railway bridge in the Saratov region and then travel to Ukraine to fight against Russian troops.
The Federal Security Service, or FSB, said in a statement that the man had been killed by return fire after offering “armed resistance” during an operation to detain him. The agency claimed the suspect was acting in coordination with Ukrainian contacts.
According to the FSB, the suspect was retrieving an 11-kilogram (24-pound) homemade bomb from a cache when officers moved to arrest him. The agency stated that a Makarov pistol and ammunition were also recovered from the scene.
The FSB said it had opened a criminal case on charges related to the illegal manufacturing and trafficking of explosives and was considering adding a charge of terrorism. This incident follows a pattern of similar reports from the agency, which has announced several operations in recent months where suspects were killed during arrest, accused of plotting attacks and having links to Ukraine.

Ukraine Says It Foiled Massive Russian Air Attack Targeting Airfield

Russia launched a large-scale overnight air assault on Ukraine involving more than 700 drones and 13 missiles, with a military airfield in the western Volyn region being the primary target, according to Ukraine's Air Force.
Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat confirmed that the attack heavily targeted the airfield near the city of Lutsk. The barrage included a mix of Iranian-designed "Shahed" attack drones and decoy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) intended to overwhelm air defenses.
Among the projectiles fired were 13 missiles, including six air-launched "Kinzhal" hypersonic missiles, which are notoriously difficult to intercept.
Despite the scale of the attack, Ukrainian officials stated that the "vast majority" of the incoming threats were successfully shot down by air defense systems across the country. The initial report from Mr. Ihnat mentioned an assault by approximately 300 Shahed drones, with later reports clarifying the larger, combined-arms nature of the attack. The Lutsk military airfield has been a recurring target for Russian strikes throughout the full-scale invasion.

Retail investors holding shares in one of Russia's largest gold producers, Yuzhuralzoloto Group of Companies (UGC), have had their assets frozen by broker VTB, an action linked to a government lawsuit to seize the company from its billionaire owner.
The move follows a court order for "interim measures" as part of a case brought by Russia's Prosecutor General's Office to nationalize the assets of Konstantin Strukov, a regional lawmaker who controls UGC. A depository report from VTB, reviewed by media, shows the shares have been moved to a restricted account section labeled "under arrest." VTB confirmed the action complies with a court order.
The seizure has caught minority shareholders in the crossfire of the state's legal battle against Strukov, who is accused of using his political position to unlawfully gain control of UGC and other assets. The Association of Retail Investors suggested VTB may have interpreted a broad court order to "seize the shares" as applying to all holdings, not just the majority stake targeted by prosecutors.
The main hearing for the nationalization lawsuit is scheduled for July 10 in a Chelyabinsk court, following a closed preliminary session on July 8. The case has sent ripples through the market, with the Moscow Exchange halting trading of UGC shares on July 4 after they plummeted nearly 30%. Other major brokers and Russia's National Settlement Depository have reportedly not yet received similar seizure orders for their clients' holdings.

Russian Environmentalist Who Fought State Over Landfill Dies Fighting for It in Ukraine

A prominent Russian environmental activist, who once stood against the authorities to block the construction of a massive landfill, has been killed in Ukraine just three months after joining the Russian military, stunning his former comrades.
Yevgeny Abakumov, 48, was a well-known figure in the successful grassroots movement at Shiyes, in Russia’s northern Arkhangelsk region, which became a potent symbol of civil society's resistance to Moscow's policies. He was reported to have joined the army in April 2025 and was killed in late June, leaving a wife and son in his hometown of Kotlas.
His decision to fight for the state he once opposed has baffled fellow activists. One former protestor told Novaya Gazeta Europe that Abakumov had previously spoken out against the war in Ukraine and had even advised others to avoid conscription during Russia's mobilization drives. The reasons for his apparent change of heart remain unknown.
The Shiyes protests, which ran from 2018 to 2020, saw locals successfully block a plan to ship waste from Moscow to a landfill in their pristine northern forests. The movement created a strong, community-oriented network, many of whose members later became vocal critics of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In a stark illustration of the divergent paths taken since the protests, at least six other Shiyes activists have been criminally convicted for their anti-war stances, while dozens more have faced fines and administrative charges for speaking out against the conflict.

Ukraine Issues Arrest Warrants for Russian Central Bank Chief, Education Minister

Ukraine has placed two high-ranking Russian officials, Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina and Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov, on its national wanted list, according to data from the country's security services.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is seeking Nabiullina on charges related to financing Russia's war effort and violating Ukraine's territorial integrity. She is accused of orchestrating the introduction of the ruble in occupied Ukrainian territories, which the SBU says helped fund Russia's military-industrial complex. Her wanted notice was reportedly issued in January 2023.
Sergey Kravtsov, Russia's education minister, has been wanted since April 2025 on similar charges of infringing on Ukraine's sovereignty. The accusations against him also include "justifying Russia's actions" and aiding the Russian military. This is linked to his role in implementing Russian educational standards and curricula in occupied regions.
The two officials join a growing list of Russian public figures, including military commanders, politicians, and artists, who have been charged in absentia by Kyiv since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Germany's Chancellor Declares Diplomacy with Russia "Exhausted"

Friedrich Merz, Germany's Chancellor, has stated that diplomatic avenues to end the war in Ukraine are now "exhausted," signaling a hardening stance towards Moscow. The declaration underscores a commitment to sustained military and financial support for Kyiv, a policy he affirmed would continue.
The statement from the German leader reflects a grim assessment of the conflict, suggesting that dialogue with the Kremlin is currently seen as futile. This position aligns Germany with other Western partners who are focusing on bolstering Ukraine's defensive capabilities. Merz's chancellorship, which began in May 2025 after his Christian Democratic Union (CDU) formed a new government, has prioritized strengthening the German military and maintaining a firm line against Russian aggression.
The shift in rhetoric comes as allies coordinate their long-term strategies. The United States recently confirmed it would resume and send additional defensive weapons to Ukraine following a temporary pause in some shipments.

Graham says Trump is ready to move on new Russia sanctions bill

A long-stalled bill targeting Russia with significant new sanctions is gaining fresh momentum, with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) signaling Tuesday that President Donald Trump is now on board.
"We're moving," Graham, the bill's author, told reporters. "He told me it's time to move so we're going to move."
The declaration marks a potential "big breakthrough" for the bipartisan legislation, which Graham has been pushing alongside Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.). Trump's apparent endorsement came after he publicly aired sharp frustrations with Russian President Vladimir Putin's refusal to enter peace negotiations with Ukraine. "For the first time yesterday the president told me... he says, 'it's time to move your bill'," Graham said in a late June interview, recounting a conversation with Trump during a round of golf.
The proposed sanctions would target countries that continue to purchase Russian energy, potentially imposing tariffs as high as 500% on goods imported from nations that buy Russian oil and do not aid Ukraine. "If you're buying products from Russia and you're not helping Ukraine, then there's a 500 percent tariff on your products coming into the United States," Graham explained, specifically citing India and China as major purchasers of Russian oil.
To address White House concerns and provide Trump with more flexibility, the bill has been revised to expand presidential waiver authority. The new version would allow the president to waive sanctions for an initial 180 days, with a provision for a second 180-day waiver that would trigger a congressional vote.
Graham expressed confidence that the Senate would advance the bill, which now has 85 co-sponsors, later this month. A White House spokesperson declined to comment on Graham's statement, instead pointing to Trump's earlier public remarks.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov to Visit North Korea for 'Strategic Dialogue'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will travel to North Korea this week for talks aimed at bolstering the rapidly expanding partnership between the two countries, Russia's Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday.
Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Lavrov will visit Pyongyang from July 11-13 for the second round of a "strategic dialogue" between the nations' top diplomats. The first round of these talks took place in November 2024, when North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui visited Moscow.
The visit follows the recent ratification of a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Russia and North Korea, which includes a mutual defense clause obligating each country to provide immediate military assistance if the other is attacked. This pact was signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's landmark summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang last month.
Lavrov's trip is expected to focus on implementing the agreements reached by the two leaders and will likely cover deepening military, economic, and technological cooperation. The visit underscores the growing alignment between Moscow and Pyongyang as both face escalating tensions and international isolation.
