Yes. The issue is that in that scenario you've already illustrated a willingness to break the law and conventions of society and you could be armed or seeking something else, and by letting you go I might be endangering the lives of others. Lets say for example that scenario happens but the guy was trying to rob my house and was digging through my cupboards for hidden money when I walked in. I let him go and a week later my neighbor is shot in a breakin and he's the mugger. Even if I don't shoot (his hands are up) I'm keeping him at gunpoint and calling the cops.

Now if he'd knocked on my door and asked for food and drink I would have been compelled by the laws of hospitality to render him aid, and I would have given him food and potentially more, but I'm not trusting someone who already broke into my home.
