these drugs absolutely destroyed my life and made me want to kill myself everyday. somehow the drugs I got from the doctor for depression made my depression 10,000x worse. please warn your loved ones about these drugs so they don’t end up like me. i want to kill myself everyday and the biggest regret in my life is ever taking these drugs. everyday I pray that God would kill me. i never thought about suicide before taking these drugs. they are extremely dangerous and should not be legal. they don’t even have to study these drugs or prove that they are legal. these drugs robbed me of all my dreams and potential.

Nobody will tell you this but the entire purpose of SSRIs is to lower your libido. This is not only the most common "side effect", they unironically gave it a name in the medical community, post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD). The post is in there because it's permanent. People literally lose all their libido.

The reason you have such high suicide rates from things like Prozac and antidepressants is, unironically, people can't feel pleasure anymore from sex, or jacking off, or anything.

SSRIs were prescribed en masse due to the completely disproven Serotonin theory in the 70s that said you're depressed because of an imbalance of serotonin. Every major medical outlet out there is saying this theory is debunked, but psychiatrists still prescribe it as a first line, because it makes so, so much more money than any other type of anti-depressant.

It's amazing how people haven't caught on about this yet, and I don't even want to go into the antipsychotics they prescribe like candy for people having depression. Antipsychotics meant for schizophrenic people.

Serious question. I've had dysthymia symptoms for 15 years now. I don't have major depression or something certifiable like catatonic depression. Over time it has worsened. I feel nothing, hardly ever. My default mode of living is forcing. Forcing myself to go to work, forcing myself to walk the dog, forcing myself to play video games. I don't experience enjoyment from anything. I have no motivation to do anything or genuine will. I haven't enjoyed any new thing for years. Despite still forcing myself to read new books, play new games, watch new movies, try new activities like programming, guitar, gym etc. I feel nothing from doing it. A decade ago I did nothing at all and would lie in bed all day sleeping. I started forcing after some advice in a book about depression which was essentially "force yourself to do things and the engagement will eventually follow". Well actually the engagement never does follow and I've just been stuck in a routine of forcing everything for years. I can't remember a time a new movie or boom genuinely made me feel excitement or joy or interest. My question is, at this point, is there anything to lose by trying SSRIs? Because I already present with the "zombie" symptoms that everyone warns about. So I don't see how they could make anything worse.

To expand on this, after dismissing it as mysticism for decades, psychology is currently rediscovering meditation, psychedelics etc. There are some fringe strands that even do some ritualistic stuff. Of course, they are still trying to rebrand in ridiculous ways to be "taken seriously" as a science and not lose their monkey status lol. I was prescribed 4 different SSRIs in my time.
The first two didn't accomplish anything of benefit and had side-effects.
Then I took the third one for 2-3 weeks before the side-effects became intolerable,
except this time some of the side-effects lingered for almost a year.
Never again, until I had to try the fourth one, which was better but still useless and with side-effects, ditched it immediately and got some real meds instead.
Tldr SSRIs are bullshit.

While I did have an actual depression at one point, with a concrete cause, it became apparent soon enough that depression wasn't a causative issue for me, but doctors seem to have a tendency to treat everything like depression if it has some similarities.
