He traded with everyone. Hunters, farmers, blacksmiths, tailors, seamstresses, you name it, they all traded what they had extra, in exchange for the things they needed.
You can still find stores today where you can walk in with a bushel of walnuts off the tree in your yard, and take home things that you need in exchange, but those stores are few and far between.
Money isn't capital. Trading your labor for money isn't capitalism.
