Why have apartments gotten so fucking expensive?
I live in an area that was known for a lower CoL, I rented my first place for less than 600 bucks back in 2019 and it was a two bedroom. Moved out a while ago, checked online and now a one bedroom goes for $1k, 2 bedrooms for 1.2
How the fuck are people affording to exist?
A friend of mine is renting for $1.3k in the fucking ghetto

They have to have roommates, the idea of living by yourself or maybe with a gf is beyond many people. It's basically prepping for the pods, getting people used to the idea of having no privacy and sharing everything. Soon even an apartment will be too expensive.

my rent has gone up over a hundred and thirty quid, council tax has gone up as well, wages have risen slightly but not by much. Just a shit show really. In the yoookay I can afford this shit studio but I cant really afford to go bigger, I literally have the bed in the same room as the kitchenette. Ive made it cosy in here but its still crap really. At my age my dad could buy a house, I cant even afford a living room. Dont really want to live with others I really dont like it but its the pod or sharing and I'm too neat and tidy to share it really stresses me out having to trust people to clean up after themselves (they never do) Women are fucking bad as well for it. Thing is I work a semi important government job in threat checking wogs and youd think I could afford a fucking extra room but noooooooooo.

seperated by thousands of miles but we share the same issue, the west is unironically falling.

potentially, id have to rise through the government wagie ranks first. They have it set up in such a way that no one knows what other departments do, overheard higher up ''officers'' (basically just managers but for some reason they all have officer titles so they can feel special) talking about how its weird they dont know what others do in the building, ive asked the ''executive officer'' whos one above me and he said they just dont know, we have access on our keycard only for our small department and no other area and if you try to get into other places security find out and its a sackable offense, getting trained on national police computers in a few weeks. It sounds spooky but its just a glorified wagie office job thats actually really boring.

I dont have too much to say really as ive only been there since early may but they do get very skittish over stuff, like if you dont have your pass on youd be stopped and questioned and potentially held to confirm you actually work there, if there is a car in the carpark that they dont recognise they send security out, gotta put in like 3 lengthy as fuck passwords just to get into my computer and thats before trying to get into any software. I do wonder what they hide. They have security everywhere as well that constantly eye you up. There was apparently a bomb evacuation at the building a few months prior to me starting which is kinda wild, they also sometimes get groups of protesters which hover near the main entrance.

>implying
blaming illegals for rent pricing is a standard republican bullshit talking point. illegals circumvent the lease entirely, why the fuck would that cause landlords to raise the average price of rent in all areas of the US? Obviously it's the housing market itself is becoming predatory and realty companies just want to squeeze as much money as possible from the average renter. Has nothing to do with Eduardo and his five cousins in a shitty townhome down on the southside.

I've lived in several countries and the way rent is handled is simply better in other places. Here, even in "affordable housing", the landlord charges the maximum amount possible while doing the bare minimum. I'm ending a lease early this week and not only do I have to pay a lease breaking fee, but I also have to pay upwards of two months rent extra so that they can "find a new tenant". Realistically that should be the responsibility of the landlord, but of course, the burden is passed on to the renter and backed up by the law.

under cutting, remove all that demand from the illegals and landlords will end up with empty units and bills to pay (remember most landlords are paying mortgages for their rental units) and they'll want to get someone in the unit as soon as possible, even undercutting other landlords in the area.

Because greed isn't setting the price of goods
Supply and demand is

Do you remember how in 2020 the price of various things dropped? Like there was a shortage of toilet paper, but the price of new cars, gasoline and plane tickets all dropped. Do you think that gas companies just got less greedy in the summer of 2020 and that's why you could fill up your car for cheaper during the start of COVID?

Yes. The reason why both Obama and Trump won the presidency is because they gave the illusion that they were reform candidates. "Change." "Hope." "Make America Great." All of that, from the left and the right is the same message with the same delivery: "We know that you're unhappy, so we'll lie and say we'll change things."
Reform won't come from Business Party Red or Business Party Blue.

>Weekly average gasoline prices in Canada dropped to 80.2 cents per litre (c/litre) on 21 April 2020. Overall, pump prices fell by 27% over the past six weeks (10 March 2020 to 21 April 2020) representing the largest six week decline since 2008.
How is it cut off at the foundation?
Here, let's put it this way. You explain to me why the price of gas dropped by over 25% during March and April based off of a model of prices being based off of greed, and then I'll explain why rents went up during COVID from the lens of Supply and Demand

It's quite simple. Not enough apartments are being built to cope with population growth thanks to NIMBYs stopping new construction so the price of that which is available goes up and up because of competition.

Look at Tokyo where NIMBYs are powerless - rent is super cheap and new stuff is being built all the time. I know people in their 20s with shitty jobs who can still afford to live alone in Tokyo.

If you want to help solve this, get involved or at least vote in local politics. Support ANY new apartments being built. Because there's such a huge shortage, the market rate apartments being built will be expensive, but the more that are built, the cheaper they'll get. This recently happened in Austin and now there's a glut of supply and rents are crashing.

That's not to say migration doesn't play a role too, but cities used to grow denser naturally when more people came to live there. Now they're just frozen in time because homeowners have too much power.

>11 million people caused the avg price of rent to rise in every single part of the continental united states
>even though them splitting the rent would not affect the landlord's take home revenue whatsoever in an of itself
>nor would it push out the average renter considering the fact that most are living in bottom of the barrel arrangements (i.e. a trailer park, unrenovated shit townhome, or a motel)

If anything, the fault would still be on the landlord for renting to someone without proper ID/paystubs/credit, which again, would not itself cause the avg price of rent to rise. Illegals taking up housing here does not create +$2,000 a month high-rise living communities downtown. Nor is it the cause for your average house being converted into 4-5 studio apartments by a realty company. That's simply the housing market's response to renters in general, and it's shown time and time again that they're siphoning as much money as they can away from renters because it's easy, lucrative, and there's very little legislation to mitigate it.

All the jobs that white teenagers used to do are now done (poorly) by middle-aged brown retards. I remember in the early 2000s going to a KFC and it was all these cute blonde high school girls behind the counter. Now it's all ugly fillipinas and pajeets so of course I never eat there, not to mention the price of a bucket of chicken is about what I paid for my first used car.

There's a reason why they legalized marijuana and now we have a government licenced "weed store" on every streetcorner.

Canada is the test case for how fast they can speedrun White Genocide before an armed revolution happens. Pretty damn fast, as it turns out.

No. Boomer NIMBY homeowners do everything they can to stop building more housing or denser housing because restricting supply pumps their home's value. California is the easiest state to cockblock construction thanks to the state's ridiculous amount of red tape/regulations. It also has tons of illegals, compounding the problem.

Also despite all the talk about how much they love diversity these virtue-signaling libshits don't actually want the brownoids they're inviting across the border to live near them. That's another reason to not build more housing and force the help to have longer commutes. They want Pedro to come mow their lawn while his wife Juanita cleans the house, they want it done cheaply, then they want the help to fuck off out of sight and out of mind until they are needed again.

Basically. You need to get the bourgeois class and the managerial class out of power, and mandate a stable money supply.

The Conservatives would likely have done the same. Liberals, Conservatives, and the NDP basically all have the same platform with minor cosmetic differences.

It's not just Canada. It's more noticeable there because they had a smaller population to begin with but (((they))) are unleashing the Pajeet bioweapon in America too. In my Midwestern flyover city we had almost no jeets 10 years ago. It was like Apu in The Simpsons, they didn't exist outside of certain gas stations. Now they are fucking everywhere.

Still hamstringed largely by work. If you have a remote job and don't mind moving thousands of miles, then it's doable, but for a lot of people they're bound by family or work opportunities
Just to throw salt on the wound though, a shitload of rich and powerful that CAN afford to do that are buying up a bunch of land and houses in places like Montana and Wyoming with a few hundred acres each
As costs go up, the rich are going to the few places poorer people could reasonably purchase land and a house at. Wish they just stayed in their costal enclaves and fucked off.

Anon, this is one of the most basic principles of economics: Migrants cause the demand for housing to increase more than the supply increases, hence the price increases.

I have never seen things get cheaper. Everything only gets more expensive. Price fluctuates occasionally, always settles higher than it was. The demand for everything cannot be infinitely increasing.

If everybody just collectively stopped working, even for a few days, the system would come a halt and we could make demands. But the average person would just say I have bills to pay or I have kids. Not knowing that your kids(and all of us really) will be better off dead anyway if we don't put a stop to this. Things will be exponentially worse if people just keep on keeping on. People say it's strong to just ignore it and keep working, but that's weak in my opinion.

>Why have apartments gotten so fucking expensive?
Uncontrolled capitalism from decades of pro-big-business politicians. Gen X and the Boomers have all the power and they consistently decide to make everything difficult for younger people by rejecting changing the status quo. Remember this: we went to the Moon with garbage 1969 technology. We can do anything if we try; humans are simply that smart. All problems that don't involve breaking laws of physics are solvable. Therefore, all current problems are the result of individuals choosing to NOT solve the issue. The solution already exists and in many cases has existed for decades. Why isn't housing affordable? Because certain people don't want it to be. It could be affordable next month if we wanted. Why is no one doing anything about climate change? Because certain people are profiting from fossil fuel usage.
>How the fuck are people affording to exist?
They aren't. Small percent of the world population lives in true destitute poverty, another massive chunk live in relative poverty, and then a small amount live in rich nations with a decent standard of living. Even within those rich nations like the USA, a huge number of citizens possess sizable debt or live a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.

tl;dr old people and billionaires ruined everything with greed
