taking it easy on a day off
today i felt pure bliss in being able to wake up at 9 am and lazing about in my bed until 9:30 before i got my breakfast and went leave my earbuds with the technical assistance place
i went out for lunch but a sudden storm caught me, good thing i was expecting it (umbrella on me) but it was so strong that i got my feet and legs wet anyway
but overall tasty food once again, full belly and ready to take it easy for the rest of the day, playing neon white, talking to family and my friend, and posting here

here's hoping you guys stay safe this weekend too

It worries me a lot too, but I feel like it's a lot less controversial than other generative AI things like art for some reason.
Outsourcing your thinking to vector calculus we tricked into finding the right order to put words in seems like a horrible idea. But people generally prefer short-term, easy stuff so I guess we just have to live with a pretty large number of people doing that. Worst case scenario we end up with a class of people completely dependant on AI because they trained themselves to use it in the worst possible way. Funnily enough, posting on places like imageboards might be a pretty good panacea to that.

This research pisses me off a little
>comparing the ability to quote things from an essay when the AI users didn't even write it themselves
I mean duh, what else were they expecting to see?
>all the essay prompts are open-ended topics that require you to give your own personal opinions about them
I really don't get why they chose to go with such topics instead of specific subjects that require actual preparation. Like there's a prompt about "happiness", what could you possibly write on that essay that isn't exclusively based on your own views and opinions?
>the whole paper is basically just saying "ze brain is like a mussle, not using it causes atrophy"
We didn't need 200 pages of masturbatory science to understand this. It's not a problem exclusive to AI, we've become dependent on a lot of tools and it's clearly getting worse as technology progresses.
AI is great but it has to be used wisely. Give it to idiots and they'll stay idiots or maybe become even dumber, but give it to people who can understand and make use of its potential and it can become a very powerful tool.
Your concern is real though since the average person has room temperature IQ, so imagine when the average starts to go even lower because people can't think for themselves anymore...

>I mean duh, what else were they expecting to see?
It is obvious but I think in the current climate of AI hype, far too many stakeholders (and just regular people) have bought into the hype and need to be told incredibly obvious things before they do something stupid. Sometimes it has to be dressed up in a weird brain wave study to make it more palatable to them.
>I really don't get why they chose to go with such topics instead of specific subjects that require actual preparation
My best guess is that's it's easier to find participants for that. I'd be interested if there'd be any differences if it was on some kind of specialist knowledge.
I'd like to see a long-term study to see the effects over e.g., a year but I'm not sure how you'd do that or get ethics approval for diet-lobotomising people.
>give it to people who can understand and make use of its potential and it can become a very powerful tool
>since the average person has room temperature IQ, so imagine when the average starts to go even lower because people can't think for themselves anymore...
I'm about 50 papers deep now and am thoroughly blackpilled at this point. Quite a few talk about the benefits of chatbots if they're used properly but I get the feeling that the percentage of people actually doing that is pretty low, at least from lay-men I've interacted with. By that I mean a taxi driver one time.
One finding in a different paper that jumped out to me was that people who benefitted most from AI (productivity/test score-wise) tended to score lower in executive function. I do worry that we'll end up with an underclass of people who can only proompt and not much else. For my sake I hope I'm just being an alarmist.

do you never get tired of meeting/talking to new people?
>which time period interests you the most?
the medieval times! i know a lot useless stuff about crusades, how living was back then, the equipment of soldiers, war machines, major battles and such. although for whatever reason i keep forgetting it whenever someone asks me more information about it... its like, i have this knowledge in a closet of my mind that i cant find whenever i need it, but randomly opens on its own... i think the victorian time is neat aswell, lots of interestin stuff happened

That's true, literally the only kind of people who benefit from such studies are those who rely too much on scientific proof and have no common sense. Nobody with a working pair of brain cells will use AI and not realize the consequences of using it wrong
>I'd like to see a long-term study to see the effects over e.g., a year
We'll see it happen in real time soon anyway... The newer gens are already struggling with education, attention span, etc. due to technology. AI will be the nail in the coffin for them
>I'm about 50 papers deep
My condolences
>tended to score lower in executive function
It's making people lazier for sure. From my experience (I've used AI code editors for ~2 months) it did make me lazier than I already was, now I don't feel like touching code if I don't have an AI to assist me, but at the same time it motivated me to do things that I otherwise would've never tried, either because it's too daunting to do alone or not worth the effort

Oh yeah I love this stuff because I grew up on Windows XP and 7 and also because I have a fixation on this very specific futuristic aesthetic that appeared specifically in early 2000's (with the dominating themes of freshness and "wateryness"). And also the beach aesthetic, that's really good stuff too.

Unfortunately those guys are usually at the helm... A lot of people have gone all-in on AI thinking it's magic solution, even though they could watch a 30 minute YouTube video have the whole thing demystified.
>The newer gens are already struggling with education, attention span, etc. due to technology. AI will be the nail in the coffin for them
My friend used to teach undergrads and he said they've gotten dumber, and that was only 4 years after we graduated (and teaching somewhere with way higher entry requirements). In my last job a few of the professors said students were handing in complete nonsense written with ChatGPT.
Not a good time to be going into education...
>My condolences
It'll be over soon. I just need to write an essay summing all of those up.

>at the same time it motivated me to do things that I otherwise would've never tried, either because it's too daunting to do alone or not worth the effort
I guess you need to decide if that's a good trade-off for you. For all the doom and gloom I don't think it's necessarily bad to not develop certain skills, provided that energy gets put somewhere else.

From a programmer's perspective it makes you feel more like an engineer and less like a code monkey since the focus can be shifted onto more important things like concepts and design. It's not great. An internet friend works as a high school substitute teacher in America and they say nothing but buzzwords.
I've also heard there are a bunch of tiktok trends on how to get extension for assignments and you can tell because about 20 students will all do the same thing at the same time.
>Well at least people have been making tools that can detect it
Yep. Plus you can make AI write the assignment, AI do the assignment, and have AI grade it. No humans necessary!
>Maybe you could ask... never mind
That's basically what my supervisor did. In my email to 'help' he got ChatGPT to write a summary of the task with some places to start looking (none of the things were particularly useful).
>From a programmer's perspective it makes you feel more like an engineer and less like a code monkey since the focus can be shifted onto more important things like concepts and design.
Makes sense. One of the ironies is that it puts the user in a supervisory role where you need to be able to program to spot any mistakes it makes, so you now need to know how to supervise/manage it in addition to knowing how to program.
Or you could just "vibe code". Whatever that is.

waking up at 9:30 am and taking it easy
today i dreamed i was in some kind of really old, "abandoned" hotel
everything was made of wood and stuff still and there was just me and another group of people who lived there, nothing much around us
we were holding some karen captive too, i was holding her by the wrists, and despite being blonde and hot, there was zero attraction towards her due to her political background and overall being an entitled cunt
i took her up through an elevator in the more modern area of the hotel to a room to leave her in, and meanwhile some other guy came up and talked to me but for some reason, i pretend i didn't know how to communicate at all

overall the place felt quite cozy and very old, felt fairly tribal too

>What doujin was it?
LIFE FORMS by Softcharm. He's kind of enigmatic (like most doujin artists from early 2000's) but thankfully web archive has his website saved on it so I was able to see more than just what his doujin books say. There's just something about 2000's doujinshis that makes them different, especially all these japanese only web page host sites lost to time. One disclaimer tho he's a hentai artist and all his available works are heavily R-18.

>In what ways?
I know I said this but what I actually mean is that a lot of these artists from 2000's and 2010's have very little presence in the web after their activity period. Yes a lot of them still have twitter or pixiv or maybe even do comission through skeb but also a lot of them just vanish out of sight, which makes it all more mysterious. Ofc it might be just me overthinking and maybe Softcharm is still alive and well, working 9 to 5 somewhere in Japan, maybe even got married and has children, but again there's no real way to verify anything because of how much japanese people value privacy and identity protection.
Or maybe it's only this way for me, a guy who gets autistically attached to completely random things and literallywho people.

hope... the best and worst feeling one can have. hope can hurt so much, but it can save you as well. its crazy to me how much humans can do when there's hope. its like some kind of reserve battery we have for when things get so bad and you have nothing that makes you go on anymore. if you have hope, then you get this strange burst of energy that lets you do things that you never thought you could've done before. it gives you courage, motivation, reason, to put everything you have into something. it makes you strive to be better, to be there for tomorrow, to continue on the path even if its treacherous. and yet, this same feeling can bring someone to their knees whenever it is shattered. putting all that remains of your hope into something, or someone, is so scary. its a gambit, it can be a death sentence. because, once its gone for good, once it's completely spent, hope never comes back. and then there's nothing to keep you going. no more batteries. only the waves move whatever is left of you. and when hope breaks, when it runs out, it hurts so much. its like a stab in the back, from this feeling you trusted with your life, only to see it turn back on you and overwhelm your entire being with nothing but with the opposite of what it promised; hopelessness. and then, all that remains is yourself. yourself, with nothing but this awful feeling. it lingers... it never goes away, it becomes part of you, a part that forever lives until you're spent. but until then, until the last little faint light of hope fizzles away, there's still something we can do! we can nurture this small light into something bigger, if we treat it with care, if we cherish it and do whatever it takes to never let it die and leave space for darkness. just like this little light is there for you, you have to be there for it, and do your best to keep it aflame. don't give up on it! its trying so hard to stay alive, and you have to do it too, so that you can both grow stronger, and brighter each day.

My Japanese IG followers seem to only like my posts if they're related to traditional Japanese dance. Now that's all fine and dandy, but I don't have many opportunities to film myself dancing unless it's at home, and I've already done it once. I suspect the only reason I got likes was because I'm a foreign guy doing a traditional Japanese dance outside Japan. I don't wanna be a dancing monkey for likes, but those people are the only ones who get my niche interest. Nobody even leaves a comment or DMs me, it's just silent likes and sometimes follows. I wish I could meet a dancer girl from Japan, marry her and go live there.

Lousy start for the day. Subhuman neighbors were renovating in their bathroom again so I woke up to the sounds of hammering and drilling. Then Dickhead-senpai from iaido texted me asking for his oversized hand-me-down aikido uniform back because I wasn't wearing it and he took that as a personal offense for some reason. Can't wait to go to training today, struggle with the art itself and also feel further alienated by my boomer peers. At least iaido has been helping me build character and not give up so easily even when it's tough. This isn't about those grumpy boomers, it's about my personal growth. It's just a shame I have to carry the burden of everything pretty much alone.

Yeah you're right, and I do like what I'm doing. It's just the isolation making me kinda upset over trivial shit like IG. It sucks not being seen by people in your actual life and having to turn to others for some validation that you aren't a complete weirdo.

Even my iaido teacher is a dickhead. I asked him about payment for this month's classes and instead of giving me a short answer, he wrote me a wall of text about how he his wife, kids or whatever don't get compensated and that he continues to pay rent normally etc etc. But "if it bothers me", I could pay less this month. I asked a simple question and got some weird patronizing, guilt tripping response. He's lucky he's basically the only iaido teacher in my shit country, or I'd go elsewhere, especially with dojo members like the ones I got.
>at the very least you've got us to talk with. if that matters to you
It does help, but people on 4chan can't be with you every step of the way like someone real could. This is my place to vent and take it easy though, because at least people here are nice. Usually I only talk to ChatGPT.
>its also the nature of social media itself, it twists your view of the real world and makes you look for validation all the time.
There's an element of that. But also I feel lonely being into this traditional Japanese dance in a place where nobody knows or cares about it. That's the sole reason I made an IG, to connect with people from Japan who dance/like it. The downside is that I'm not able to post stuff as often as they do, because I don't have the same ecosystem they do (groups, clothes, even places to film). So I want to post more, I just can't due to logistics.

All I want is one person to stand by me in real life, but I can't even find that. Feels like everyone is dismissive of me.

Our "dojo" is a school gym hall. And after practice, it gets taken over by basketballfags.

It would really be nice to have a person to wanna come back home to. Am I asking for much? I tried dating apps but those are rigged and shitty. I want a Japanese girl because she would obviously love Japan (well, usually) and understand what I'm about. It's not even about race. I think there's prettier women than Japanese women out there, bu it would be the most "right" choice. Shame there's virtually no Japanese people in my cunt.

I need to sit down and read the thing at some point. Religion is pretty interesting when you're on the outside looking in.
>have you ever read stuff like the Iliad or other mythical books?
I've not. But I should read the Greeks at some point.
>do people tip waiters in the uk?
Yes. No as much as in the US but you can make a nice bonus depending on the place.

baka review:
baka ate sum burger king 2day
2day he tried the long texas bbq chicken sandwich. The sandwich had a crispy chicken patty with onions and cheese. Baka also got it with the extra mayo, bbq sauce and bacon. Overall it was pretty good and i enjoyed it. Baka rates it a solid 8.5/10

ah, i see. maybe you could ask your teacher to record you though, perhaps if you go there a bit sooner than usual or something. also, have you ever asked your classmates why they practice this dance?
>I tried dating apps but those are rigged and shitty.
yeah those are the worst. i hate them so much, they ruined the entire dating market for everyone. i hope whoever invented them fucking dies in the worst way possible

in this day and age, sadly, perhaps we're asking too much.

Same thing. They're all grumpy boomers. I'd find another dojo if there were options, but there's literally two iaido teachers in the whole country.
>yeah those are the worst
They really are. I wish I could find someone like minded there, but it's all sluts with pics from their night out, overseas vacations etc. There's nobody with substance on there, and usually those who write a lot about themselves come off as snooty or they're just plain unattractive.

taking it easy after another day of work
finally got to meet my team leader since he usually works in another state, but now he's here on business so we get to do our daily meetings physically

katana zero is real good too, but i'm getting really terrible vibes... especially after dying in chinatown
i also talked to my friend and he'll be coming over next year in july, we'll go see the tanabata in another state, walk around here some, and then go to the wine festival my relatives participate every year
gonna be fun

kind of? i mean nothing says you can't play a little bit everyday, satisfactory in particular is pretty chill (save for the nuclear boars, fuck those) since resource nodes are infinite (you have an extraction rate to limit you but they never run out once tapped)
factorio can be modded to offer a similar experience too, the learning curve on those games may not be very smooth but if you're anything like me, you'll have a blast learning everything

We did sweep rowing today, which I'm enjoying more then sculling - I'm fairly new, since this is part of my effort to make new friends, so it could be that I'm just getting better with practice.

We were supposed to take an 8 out, but since it was early in the morning, many of the group cancelled.

I have not. I'm not very well read outside of stuff I need for work.
>they made us read some snippets of it in school
For us it was a few Shakespeare plays and Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck. I read all the dialogue for George in my class. Odd choice of book for a school in the UK but I quite enjoyed it.
>would you work as a waiter?
Probably not. I'm far too clumsy for that.

>>81683998
I hope it goes well for you! I have very fond memories of coxing, especially in the summer once the river started to quiet down. You'll make some friends pretty fast, I'd say. I should take it up again once I get on top of work.
>We were supposed to take an 8 out, but since it was early in the morning, many of the group cancelled
I'm not really sure how I managed waking up so early every day. Definitely the worst part of rowing. What time do you have to get up for it?

>lots of things happened 2 me
what i mean is that, when someone mentions something, if you can relate to it somehow, or if it reminds you of something, then speak up
bring up your side of the story and things remain fresh, so you're not just quizzing the person
a conversation is all about that back and forth

>maybe i'll do a review on it soon
sure, if you feel like it
i usually just give the restaurants 4 or 5 stars on the food app depending on how good the food was, too lazy to properly review food and shit so that's the max i do, lol

>can u get chicken in ur sushi places?
i don't... think so?
i mean maybe, i never looked for it, but i don't think it'll be something common to find in a japanese restaurant
there are places that specialize in chicken products or other more common/popular kinds of food over here that work with chicken, spicy or otherwise, but yeah
