It booted up and finished installing an update (this is what may have fucked it as someone put the computer into sleep mode mid update)
Finished that shite, booted to desktop, ran the /sfc command and it fixed some minor errors apparently

Told them to save and back up anything important before they go switching it off again and fucking update it when it needs to instead of putting it off until it forces the update, usually at the worst possible fucking time

i did not back shit up. one day it stopped working. managed to intermittently get it to spin/read on one of those USB external readers (like anon mentioned). got some photos with PhotoRec, a few random files with DMDE, and then used a Linux SystemRescue thing to make an image of the whole drive with ddrescue (which took something like 50 hours total, and then i got fuck all through the same tools).

there was an exploit in Deezer (Spotify competitor thing) where people figured out how to just make a free account and download FLAC albums. fuck the old days of private trackers + CD rips: this just fetched lossless audio files with perfect metadata/cover art/everything
then devs made these open-source apps/clients to stream/download from Deezer without the official software. the company DID patch the free FLAC thing, then fixed the exploit entirely ;_;
