Buffy has never been released in Blu-ray de lid the remaster has just been for streaming. They probably planned a Blu-ray release but the backlash was so strong I imagine they fucked it off.
Shows filmed with a 16:9 safe zone or whatever I don't mind being reframed as long as it's done well. The Wire remaster is amazing but David Chase personally oversaw it so that's why. The X-Files remaster is really good too as well as the recent remaster of Charmed.
I'm still an advocate for watching shows as they originally aired to be honest. It's not the same as films and often they were framed a specific way for older tellys.
If you want a really fucking mad one, the Baywatch remaster is literally a Frankenstein creation. Because it was edited on video they had to go back to the original negatives and recreate the episodes. So while they're the same episodes, they also aren't and differences can be seen. Me? I have the German box set with the original aspect ratio and all the original music.
