Living in the third world is bad. Even though this is a third world country, my experience is kind of great: I live in the metropolitan/global city, middle-class family, really far from poorness, I study in a good university which ranks good not only regionally but globally too. And there are many good restaurants here, that's probably the best.
But this doesn't take away the fact that I live with ugly, loud and dirty people. This country particularly likes greasy food, so not only I have to coexist with ugly people, but with greasy pigs too. If I'm using any national or popular service such as the metro I'll be constantly touching things contaminated with grease, not to mention that they won't bother caring about other passengers: they'll be all stacked in the front of the door and won't let me pass to the interior of the train, which use to have a lot of space and seats available.
I don't know about the metro experience in first world countries. I traveled to Bangkok and Japan once and found their public transportation, both bus and metro, pretty clean, efficient and respectful in general (the passengers are always policing themselves to not annoy their fellows), but I wonder if It was just a tourist bias. Probably asians and western countries also hate the metro in the peak hours, though they probably have a nice experience outside the peak hours.
i didn't mean to pick a lust-provoking image, i just happened to choose any random image available in my folder
