It's weird that Japanese anime portrays canonically Japanese characters with obviously European features. I'm not talking about anime set in other worlds, I'm talking about characters that are canonically Japanese being portrayed just as white as the European characters.

I have always thought this as well. The weirdest part about this to me is that there is sometimes characters that do look asian, but they tend to be side characters or background characters. And when there are white characters, they look no different from the MCs who are supposed to be asian. Sometimes, the MC is meant to be white but there are never characters of other races included. They do. The pretty anime characters are part of the main cast. It's usually background characters or antagonists drawn ugly realistic.
And they do this with japanese and foreign characters. If you have a foreign character that's part of the main cast they are drawn in normal anime style.
