That is the most interesting splattering of shows I could imagine. I would guess you haven't seen too much and like Evangelion and Utena are like 2 of like 4 random classics you actually decided to watch.

If your using SAO as the benchmark for main stream then the formative shounens would have been HxH and FMAB. I do see your point but it is worth mentioning that the popularity of anime world wide just about doubled during covid according to Google search data. So its inarguable that anime discourse got significantly worse during this time period and thereafter. I do see your point though anime wasn't as good in the 2010s as it was in 2000s and so on and so on. I would argue that covid was just the tipping point where it crossed so far into mainstream that it snowballed out of control and now its just pure normie property.

Anitubers don't even exist at this point they all retired or moved on to broader subjects. Anitubers in general was way more of a 2010s thing, now its just tiktok edits and whatever anime has the coolest fight scene or the characters with the most "aura".

It's just the inevitable consequence of not gatekeeping your hobby, as shown by pic related.
D&D is currently at step 6/7; it has become mainstream and the rules of the game have been dumbed down and corrupted in order to satisfy the new players at the expense of the original fans.
Eventually it will become so pozzed that the core fanbase will become so disenfranchised that they leave (or go back to private groups playing older versions as seen in this thread), then due to that reduction of popularity the casuals will also abandon it and the whole thing will eventually implode.
