>Not sure if I'd want to go active or reserve/NG at this time,
NG/reserves is not a job. Do you want a job or not? There’s full-time reserve spots, but they’re not guaranteed. Do you want a job or not? Also, it’s generally harder to commission into the reserves because you’re competing with officers getting off active duty.
>mainly because my parents are getting older.
Do you even wanna join the military? You can still deploy in the reserves. Your dad might die while you’re in fucking Africa. You’ve gotta make some choices.
>But I've also been living in the same hometown (still with my parents) for almost 23 years now.
Well, do you wanna live near your parents or not, retard?
>The guys I know who enlisted after high school seem to be well-traveled with way more life experience than me.
Hopefully less retarded too.

>Do I start talking to a recruiter now?
You haven’t even picked a branch.
> I don't know for certain, but I have heard officer applications take a while.
Yes.
>Can it only be started after receiving my degree?
No, you can start up to a year early.
>All input is welcome and appreciated.
You’re a queer.

>I am on month 13 waiting to get into the Navy.
Like Navy OCS? Did you get selected and are waiting to ship? Or not even selected yet?
>In the meantime, I put in a packet for the Coast Guard for OCS.
I heard this fucks with your packets in other branches, but maybe Coast Guard is an exception. I was told by the Air Force officer recruiter that if you put a packet in with the Air Force, you cannot put a packet in with any other branch until the process is complete.
>I already have the basic level secret clearance.
Cool. So does a lot of the military. I don’t think that really matters.
>Apparently, it is just a matter of being picked from the pile.
I guess.

The officer pipelines are weird. People really hate on the whole
>Enlist and try to go officer later
Meme, but for me, I’d rather at least be getting paid, earning retirement years, and maybe get your GI Bill while you wait on the officer process. But I dunno. There’s really no perfect solution anymore. I’ve heard ridiculous shit like the Air Force making officer selects wait 2 years before actually sending them to OTS or whatever, and this is after however much time they spent getting selected in the first place. That’s damn near an entire enlisted contract.

I’m an enlistoid, so I’m a little biased, but I think I’d honestly rather enlist and finish a contract while I’m playing the officer waiting games. But I know that’s a very controversial opinion.

Engineer here. Trying to commission and get out after my initial contract.

Was looking at Air Force OTS, but not only is it picky as fuck, but apparently the pipeline is so backed up that candidates are waiting over a year to go to OTS even after being selected. That’s like 1/4th of a contract, so not time efficient for someone like me trying to get out after 4 anyways.

I’ve given up on doing engineering or anything cool in the military as an officer because all the good jobs are piled with candidates, have 6+ year initial commitments, or makes people wait 2 years before they get their first paycheck.

So what’s a stupid easy officer job (in any branch) where I’ll ship quick, won’t work much, and hopefully be stationed at a base that doesn’t suck? I’m open to any branch, even Coast Guard.
