What isn’t bad about Gen 2?

The Johto games don’t do anything particularly well. The gameplay is horrible, and the maps are boring, the Pokemon distribution is dogshit, the item spread is terrible, the NPC fights are all shit, the level curve goes to shit after the third gym. They’re objectively the weakest games in the series
