I don't understand why you guys insist this is somehow incompatible with him having a love interest. He was literally conceptualized as having a girlfriend right from the beginning

What we got isn't the Ultimate version of Colors. A proper Sonic Colors Ultimate would have:
>fixed the English script
>added missions and their corresponding scenes based on the DS version
>recreated the final boss from the DS version
>added online multiplayer like the DS version
>completely changed at least 3 of the bosses
>mapped the 6 music tracks that each main zone now has to each of the 6 acts instead of splitting them into 3
>made the world maps Unleashed style hub worlds
>made Tails playable as a bonus
Hopefully several years from now Colors will get a new rerelease that does it justice
