It's because Battle for Angel Island was allowed to be the follow up to a game plot (Ian is best when he's adapting material or expanding on it rather than writing original content. This is why his run on Archie was much stronger than IDW) and Metal Virus was written for post-reboot Archie, a series the staff were much more passionate about. Ian stopped giving a fuck after Penders' lawsuits, Archie, and SEGA fucked him out of writing what he actually enjoyed. Derivative referential fiction that expanded upon an existing canon to draw from. IDW is a comic about nothing because the mandates demand it be episodic and none of them want to write an episodic comic. It feels like nothing ever happens because none of the writers are willing to be humble enough to write self contained stories. I remember being super hyped for this game and its release when it first came out on Steam. It was a blast to play through as a kid. It made me fall in love with Sontails. I love their genuine team work and collaboration. You can really feel the emotional intimacy and love they have for each other when they 69. It's great. I hate everyone who shat on this game. An improvement from Episode 1 in every way.

All the mid 2010s kids I've happened to talk with in the past couple of years have told me their favorite Sonic game is Unleashed. Penders was in the right for part of that lawsuit. They were using his characters and reprinting entire issues without permission or payment. It was Archie's fault for not paying him, and then also losing the contracts in the biggest fumble in comic history. Penders did in fact go off the deep end, yes. By claiming he created a bunch of characters he didn't. It's just important to remember that he had a solid case to work off of.

I mean the Adventure games are still consistently some of the most played Sonic games on Steam with a large modding community, especially SA2 thanks to the Chao Garden.

When people talk about the 2010s they usually talk about Colors and Mania. The best way to play Generations comes from Sonic X Shadow Gens which includes the 2024 Shadow portion and I'm seeing a growing number of people preferring that one gameplay wise. Mania and Superstars are based on Japanese Classic Sonic, American Classic Sonic is essentially dead outside of niche corners of the fanbase. There are Forces and Lost World defenders too, though Lost World flopped and most people still hate the deadly six, usually when I see folks praising these games they focus only on gameplay not story. Never heard anyone praise TSR

Sonic Boom flopped and is basically dead. IDW does not exist outside of the fanbase, though it is popular within. Also most 2010s fags like Frontiers which clearly tries to recapture the aura of the 2000s games.

Likely SEGA aa a whole is done with the artistic creativity side of it, they saw what we did. No matter how creatively bankrupt this series becomes, the games sell. It's their crutch. I would so rhe same thing too in their position. If it's more profitable to NOT try, why the fuck would you ever put in effort to begin with. Sonic when they tried never sold. It's selling like hotcakes now and it's never been more bland. Taking away Sonic's entire character has only been a net boon for SEGA, and lively will continue down that route because it's profitable.

Tails cowering to those monsters was stupid. I know that Tails is canonically scared of ghosts and stuff but still, he should've been able to fight them. Unleashed was the first mainline game since Sonic 1 to only have Sonic be playable so it made Tails be the computer guy and idk. I don't even hate the Miles Electric I just don't like that Tails basically returned the second banana

I also don't like the humor much. It's not funny and it's very juvenile. It's especially bad in English because I find Chip's voice in the dub to be very grating. In Japanese he's much cuter but still not very endearing until the moment he regains his memories. I don't hate Chip but compared to other one off companions like Emerl, Shahra and Caliborn he's not as interesting.

Also Amy doesn't really do anything. I liked that scene were Sonic looks upset she didn't recognize him but they don't really do anything with that
