I posted this webbum in a stellar blade thread earlier and 80% of the replies just called me bad for criticizing this slop
fucking retarded fakeout animations every other attack is not fun. It goes against the underlying design philosophy of the genre in pursuit of muh difficulty. It can be cool every once in a while, maybe a particularly elite enemy or boss can do it as a gimmick, but when you have enemies doing it all the time you just ruin the integrity of the gameplay.
The entire point of the soulslike combat system is fair, clear telegraphs. Only on this foundation can you restrict the player such that all their moves must be deliberate and committal. If you can't trust the telegraphs, the player has no reason to respect the challenge.
It's dogshit. Devs might as well go back to the old paradigm of action games where skill is derived from combo execution and reflexes. At least games like Bayonetta and DMC actually understand the type of game they're trying to be.
