>Maybe they are now
No. There's no maybe about it. It's two mechanical switches.

Preliminary report on that Indian airline crash is that one of the Jeet pilots turned the engines off as they were ascending. The switches were flipped back on and one of the engines was spooling up but it was too late.

It seems accidental. The exchange makes it seem the one who did the fuckup didn't realise they did it and the switches were flipped back on before it crashed. One engine has sped up, the other had just been relit and was getting up to speed at the time of impact. If they'd have had maybe another 5-10 seconds, maybe they could have got out of the stall.

The thing that's really weird is that the switches were flipped a second or two apart when indicated a deliberate movement rather than brushing a hand against it. What was the pilot thinking he was turning off/on?

Boeing have already had multiple crashes from computers trying to help the pilots. If both engines are on fire, they may need to cut the fuel so the plane won't explode ASAP, there are lots of shittily trained pilots out there and you don't want them to have to memorise over-ride sequences or dig out the manual for what needs to be something instant.

would have to be suicide unless the jeets did a historically incompetent thing.
