Anime isn't "taboo" or weird anymore among the youngest generations. But that's not all that's weird - they watch with dubs AND subs at the same time. I've asked about it and they say it's because it's easier to hear and understand in English, but they like reading the subs because the translation is usually closer to the original Japanese.
