They were only “consumer friendly” in the sense that they were cheaper than the competition. I don’t personally factor price into my equation when assessing if a company has my interests in mind; I’m more than happy to pay a higher premium if it means I get a higher quality product without strings attached.

However you are correct in that most people’s perception of “pro consumer” starts and ends with the price tag. Most people pissing and moaning about Nintendo right now haven’t even heard the phrases “right to repair” or “predatory EULA” in their life.

I suppose the illusion was going to go away eventually, but this whole situation has been very frustrating for me as someone who has kept up with the company (and the wider gaming industry) for decades at this point. Most of the shit they’re pulling now is not new, and yet everyone seems shocked. It’s very odd.

Then again I’m probably just watching my time given that 80% of the people ITT are no more than 15 years old.
