I don't envy IDW
>Sega basically wanted to use it as avehicle to expand the universe of -Forces-
>the writers basically wanted to use it as a vehicle to soft-continue -Archie-
>it succeeds at neither and the company is dying

The biggest thing that hit me is how they handle Yuta vs IDW's OC parade. Yuta is written as a one-shot companion character who gets swept up in Sonic's world, learns something, and that's it. He's not trying to be the next permanent addition to the Sonic cast like every IDW character desperately wants to be. Meanwhile IDW keeps shoving Whisper, Tangle, Belle, Surge, Kit and all these other forgettable furries at us like "please care about our OCs, they're totally gonna be in the games guys!"

And holy shit, Sonic actually feels mysterious and cool again instead of this relatable therapy hedgehog bullshit. The manga treats him like this enigmatic force of nature who shows up, does weird endearing shit like randomly cleaning train windows, and inspires people just by being himself. Compare that to IDW where Sonic's biggest character moment is consoling his robot daughter or giving pep talks to his war buddies.

The story structure is pure kino too. It runs on coincidence and random encounters, which is exactly how Sonic stories should work. These characters are supposed to be free spirits having adventures, not military operatives following Restoration protocol. IDW is so obsessed with explaining why everyone is together and justifying every action through their stupid organization that it sucks all the magic out of it.

It's literally written like a Doctor Who companion introduction story and it works perfectly. Sonic shows up in someone's normal life, takes them on an adventure, changes their perspective, and moves on. That's the formula! But IDW would rather have 50 issues of setup explaining why the Restoration needs to recruit this person and how their tragic backstory connects to the larger mythology.

The manga embraces mystery while IDW tries to explain everything to death.

IDW is in full-on cope mode. They just put out a statement bragging that they have enough cash to survive for "at least another year." The clock is officially ticking, boys.

Their revenue has absolutely cratered, dropping over 31% from last year. They've lost $1.7 million in the last six months alone.

The report says their revenue from COMIC BOOKS specifically is what's tanking the hardest. Guess nobody wants to read about the misadventures of lesbian donut steels after all. This is what happens when you let Flynn run the book into the ground.

The best part is the CEO was on a call telling investors that if his plans had worked, they'd "all be on a yacht," but they failed.

They're bleeding money and losing licenses. We're so close to being free of this trash.
