It's a great quote, it's from Oscar Wilde. It's about how hard people are to please and how self-contradictory we can be. Often, people don't really know what they want. They may have a vague fuzzy idea, but the real thing rarely matches up to the ideal. Life is all about making compromises, nobody ever gets exactly what they thought they would. So, not getting what you want is a tragedy because you're being denied, but it's nice because you have that goal and that idea of what you want. However, getting what you want is also a tragedy because it's so often disappointing.
