This, trump wanted Colbert fired as part of CBS's copulation to him along with the 16 million bribe. To make it not so blatant, they're letting Colbert's contract expire instead of firing him outright which would bring more attention to trump's massive cover up for Epstein given Colbert was one of the biggest people on TV bringing attention to it.
