More classic Romero-zombies, yes, but viral outbreak that can be spread by crows and rats. Also, in mainline RE the world never was overrun. Only local oubreaks. Also, zombies eventually turn into lickers that are a LOT harder to manage.

Cordyceps infection was already all over the place due to indonesian baking flour. Good chance half of the military was already infected when the collapse happened.

Also, don't underestimate how physically straining survival in these games would be IRL. Also, you would have to consider the collapse of all social support structures. No more easy food, no more medicine, tools, ammo production.
