Winning Eleven 3: Final Ver. (PlayStation)

I think nothing compares to Konami's Winning Eleven titles on PlayStation and PlayStation 2, they were the peak of video games based on the world's biggest sport, and nothing came even close, not even FIFA, which sold more and was more popular due to a good marketing investment from EA, especially regarding the licenses, but on the pitch? Konami was king and most agreed, even Konami's own Internation Superstar Soccer couldn't compare to Winning Eleven, it's still the core of how the genre plays currently.

World Cup Italia '90 for SEGA Master System is a decent soccer title that plays decently in the middle of the park, counter attacking feels good, but building it up from the back isn't bad either, it's a good take on the sport and I quite like playing, despite it only having 8 players on each side, and favouring counter attacking a lot more, also slide tackles feel more like I genuinely have no merit wheter they work or not, but there's one issue that makes this title so much worse... what's soccer all about? Goals, that's the point of the sport, and here shooting is just awful, scoring feels impossible... until you start passing around the goalkeeper when going one on one, just pass it to the side and shoot into an open net, every goal, every time.

I think (>>11798842) nailed it, but just to add a few things... sports video games have been a thing from the get go, since Tennis For Two and Pong, other types of games being turned into video games is also common, look at RPGs, board games and card games in general, and they're often beloved. Of course, it's not as fantasy like as other video games, so what's the point? If playing the real sport is possible, why not do that? Well, it's not always viable to set up a match with friends, people are busy with other things and getting everyone together won't always work, also there is a fantasy element if you like the sport, taking your team to a title you might never see them win for real, becoming a professional player though you didn't make it in real life.

I'd give them a shot, anon! I think you could find some enjoyment.
