Links fundamentally changed the game since konami felt like summoning your entire hand for free was too much, but it felt too harsh if you weren't a pendslopper, you literally needed to run generic links just to get more zones for your synchro/xyz. MR4 thankfully fixed that.

But honestly, i'd say POTE did more damage to the game than anything else before it. Some """people""" soiface over being to do turn zero plays on top of handtrapping their opponent to shit, but once you ask them to elaborate why exactly this change was good for the game, they are at a loss for words. That, or they literally, unironically go "ummm, it just is, OK?".
