>but I arrived at it independently.
I'm reminded of how Final Fantasy VII, one of the most important games ever, completely changed its direction. The draft FF7 script from 1994-1995 was set in a modern-day New York-style setting, where Jenova wasn't an alien but an ancient, rogue gene that could manifest itself in anyone. Square had to put FF7 on hold to develop other games like Chrono Trigger, but by the time work resumed on FF7, a popular J-horror novel called "Parasite Eve" came out with basically the exact same Jenova concept. When work resumed on FF7, they completely scrapped the old script and came up with a totally new story, and maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with avoiding plagiarism. In any case, with Square's nouveau riche from FF7's success, they struck a deal with Parasite Eve's publisher to develop a video game sequel: the Parasite Eve game was thus pretty much FF7's original draft.
