Everyone’s memeing but the real downfall was FF13. 12 was experiemental action but was still basically turn-based and had heavy rog elements. FF 13 was when they decided to move away from turn-based into real action combat. It was this halfway in-between slop that didn’t know what it wanted to do. Gameplay wise it had the typical atb bar and you’d only get to make superficial choices. Storywise, it wanted to “capture the feeling of FF7” again without understanding why people liked it (literally why it opens with a train scene) but all it did was turn into an incomprehensible mess that you had to read an in-game booklet to understand the Jargon. The characters were entirely forgettable because no one knew what was happening, save for the fuckability of the women and the guy with the chocobo in his hair.

It was 4 discs long to hold the cutscenes but most people barely got through 2. It had two sequels to coup the costs of the game which were better but still mediocre and had nonsense time-travel plots as well. Afterwards, they never learned their fucking lesson for any of the games besides Yoshi-P being able to turn FF14 from dogshit into a good product by streamlining most of the issues of the original launch and making it playable. But even that is indicative for the biggest issues at squeenix because the main problem with Ff14 now is that everything is too fucking streamlined. They also stuck a tranny in there.

The only game so far that has gotten the action-rpg genre right at square enix, that fucking isn’t KH2, is FF7: Rebirth because it actually has snappier, precise combat. Even then though, it still somehow managed to fuck up literally translating the FF7 plot by adding in more multi-universe bullshit.

Time-travel was a big part of FF1 and 8 and they were panned for doing it. It’s like there’s a wack-a-mole problem at Squeenix where they have the same retarded issues popping up for their games and they can never squash all of them.
