Telling Ralsei to keep smiling is so, so heartless.

He was protecting Susie this whole time. He wanted so much to just help her forget about everything. Help her forget about not having enough food, or not having any good clothes. It was a selfless act, one he made the mistake of trying to conceal.

And he failed. She says it's not going to happen. She says it's stupid. She says she's not worried. But Ralsei knows the truth. She must be in denial, he thinks.

His one purpose, up in flames. The only thing he has left is You, and his smile. He breaks down in front of You, flashing a smile. If they just think I'm happy, I'll still have purpose. I'll see be here. They can still see me.

What do you do? Do you comfort him? Do you tell him, "You are more than your smile. You are more than you will ever realize. Your feelings, your pain, your everything, is deeply, deeply important."

Or do you tell him to keep smiling? Keep doing what you're doing. You are nothing. You are a tool. You are a jester, a clown. Your feelings mean nothing to me. Your pain means nothing to me. Keep dancing. Serve me. You are not a real person. The second you don't make ME feel happy, the second that the act, the performance falters, you WILL be discarded.
