1. Precise spacing
2. Movement that allows you to perform more actions than dashing does
3. Lets you immediately land on platforms
4. Lets you immediately slide off of platforms facing forwards or backwards
5. Some characters (Luigi, Ice Climbers, Ganondorf, Forsburn, Absa) specifically benefit from wavedashing because it's a better than their dash or run, or has niche characteristics
6. Makes your movement more unpredictable
Complaining about wavedashing is one of the easiest ways for someone to out themselves as a casual who doesn't know what they're talking about. It's far from the most important advanced technique - or even form of movement - in any platform fighter. It's like complaining about shimmying in a traditional, 2D fighting game. Just shimmying back and forth isn't going to get you anything, but it's still an important ingredient of good neutral and advantage state.

melee / pm and rivals are similar games and have a lot of overlap in terms of both gameplay and players. would you like another pity bump in an hour instead?

>so idk why I don't connect with other plat fighters
i feel like every platform fighter until RoA2 has just been too jank to take seriously. slap city was fun, and NASB2 is actually a good game, but being fun doesn't stop them from feeling like they're held together with rubber bands and cum. i didn't really like the characters designs of RoA2 at first, but other than that it feels like a fairly polished game. the animations are nice, which is the most important thing to me.
also Smash is just a different thing at this point. it's come full circle to being a party game where you can make X beat up Y.
