clearly when they wrote that scene in canto 3 then intention was to hint at don's past and how her friends (most likely some fixer group that travelled the city with her) tard wrangled her.
don being a bloodfiend may have been there from the start.
but it's pretty clear PM was gonna go on a completely different direction with her story
