The problem with saying characters are or are not mentally ill is that everyone has a different threshold for what is considered mentally ill. Technically, in a medical sense, if you're super stressed out and have anxiety from it then you're mentally ill regardless of how utterly reasonable and understandable it is for you to be so. It's unironically a completely worthless argument because of the insanely low barrier of entry, and the minute you establish parameters and thresholds by specifying *what* mental illness you have you are incongruent with the words of the author.
