Enter furry Project M

Melee players are like people who refuse to eat anything other than the same dinosaur chicken nuggets they've been eating for the past two decades. I love Melee, Melee is easily much more technically demanding than RoA2, but the fact is that it's new, it's good, and it's being updated every month. Fighting games in general have a Goldilocks problem, where people will simply refuse to play anything that isn't "just right", which is never realistic.

Rivals of Aether 2
>why
It's basically Project M but not yoked to daddy Nintendo. It's cheap, DLC characters are free, there's enough account- and character-based progression to keep me engaged, the online works well, movement is fast and fluid, and there's a lot of skill expression in the gameplay. I can't really think of another game I've played this year that I've enjoyed more. Tournaments have been fun to watch.

I love encountering people with friendly fire on in seamless co-op, it's always hilarious. I tried DS3 seamless co-op with a few friends, but we lost interest in Irithyll. The first act of the game is such a slog, even in multiplayer.
