It was plainly obvious they had long-term plans for Wuk. You don't just give one character 90% of the lines in a single expansion (and so many lines she's now the third most-spoke character in the ENTIRE game since ARR despite only showing up in this one expansion), give her a name that literally means "Seventh Dawn"(like the Scions of the Seventh Dawn", if you don't intend big future things for her. If Wuk Lamat was actually well recieved, you can bet your ass she was going to be kept around. i actually genuinely believe she was meant to be the new WOL to replace us for the next 10 year story arc, that the plan was to have a retreat of ARR to EW but with Wuk Lamat in our place and us as her "mentor" (by mentor I mean sitting in the fuck chair being Wuk's camera-man).
The only reason you're going "THEY OBVIOUSLY WE'RE GONNA SHELF HER AFTER THE MSQ BRO" is because you know how much backlash she's gotten. You faggots have been moving the goalpost on when she's gonna be gone since 7.0, and then try to gaslight when she still ends up being around the following patch as if you never said she wouldn't/ They had MASSIVE plans for this character, and it seems like they're finally backpeddling hard. But 7.3 is their last chance to axe her for good, if Wuk is STILL around in 7.4 (or worse has been made a Scion officially, and especially if they kill off real Sphene who everyone loves) than holy fuck the backlash is going to be biblical. Like it will actually unironically kill the game, only people left will be the hardcore raid trannies and the modbeast Second Life crowd.

Most new players joined during the "Anomaly" phase of the game where there was both a great MSQ and good side content to do not exclusive to raiders. The reason why EW retained a moderately high playerbase throughout despite having no side content of it's own is because there was both Bozja and Eureka(ShB buffed) to do for newer players even if it was older content by that point alongside all the other older expansion stuff.
Savage has been eternally been on a downward trend of player participation save for one specific point, the start of EW at 6.05, that's when tens of thousands, if not likely hundreds of thousands, of new players engaged with Savage for the first time and discovered that it's nothing like the rest of the game. The entire rest of the game is designed around doing it blind then the endgame is Lost Ark styled "Watch a guide three times over" shenanigans.
Savage content is so underplayed that it literally dies within the patch it's introduced. Chaotics are already joever, M1-4S are joever, hell you'd likely struggle to fill a fresh "new players welcome" learning for M5-8S at this point. The only time previous Savages are run is when you either no-synch destroy everything or memers trying to solo very old savages, largely the same problem for EXs hence why the Unreals exist in the first place.
It's almost entirely a raiders game with an MSQ attached to it and the few times it hasn't been were Adventure Forays designed for everyone. So making the new Foray into a raider's game means there's even less for everyone to do but more for raiders to do. Players have every right to be annoyed about it.
They need to evolve the raid systems somehow to gain new players or it will be right back to SB or lower population, even the latest population data shows this trend where they're losing all the gains from ShB and EW. It will sustain itself with it's low budget like it did before but it's probably not something SE wants to see happen.
