VP9 was added recently like a few years ago so OP isn't incorrect I think. Before that we could only use VP8 which fucking blows and is only like 20% better than mozjpeg.
VP9 should fare better especially since it supports 10-bit but at the same time many hardware VP9 hardware decoders do not support 10-bit so maybe it's a wash...

Honestly at this point I'm becoming more convinced that Hiro sees 4chan more as a side business, like a little crackhouse on the outskirts of tokyo. This is highly evidenced by the fact that not even Webp is supported yet despite the image format increasing in popularity recently and having over 10+ years of security hardening behind it.

It's nowhere near as bad as the rotting corpses known as JPG/H264 persisting in 2025. We only have corporations pushing cloud storage on us because keep using uber outdated technologies that take up TBs of storage space.
