No, you're only thinking about the gay AAA game companies that want to sell you less and less, you not even owning it, and how they will find a way to make everything even lazier. Think of all the NPC dialogs that can become significantly more immersive when you can actually ask quest or world-relevant questions to and have a dialog, the intelligence of the combat AI adapting to your moves and history of weapons, or how new paths of completing a story can be made with negotiation.

I believe that if the ineffective government wants to pride itself on leashing the corporations from taking advantage of the common man that they should reign in their abilities to destroy the art and culture of games, particularly the ones sold to individuals as fully functioning games, from the corporations and make these products consumer friendly.
The corporations have many tools at their disposal for shifting the bar of standards away from the hands of the unorganized individual consumers so they can milk revenue more and more while delivering less. Using standards of commerce that have already been in effect and needed a glossary update to map onto new technologies is not at odds with the freedoms of commerce. You're not allowed to sell me a refrigerator magnet and then flip a switch in your office that disables its electromagnetic field because my time is up. Even Locke himself would advocate for legislation against this shite.
