Evidence lad. For example, this image from the Hubble space telescope is thought to contain about 10,000 galaxies (I guess they counted the little dots), and it's only one tiny part of the sky. So if every tiny part of the sky has 10,000 galaxies then when you add them all together, you get a big number.

What are all those stars and galaxies we can see then?

This image contains about 10,000 galaxies

Apparently there are 100 million stars in the average galaxy, and 1 or 2 planets per average star.

So a low estimate would be that there are 1 trillion planets in this image. And this is just a small part of the sky.

Space is mad.
